Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
well, the T-whatever-it-was i played awhile back was so heavy it could have doubled as a drag anchor on Deadliest Catch. it was a truly fine bass in all respects, and i'd love to own one, but to say it didn't make my MIM Jazz Bass seem like a Parker in comparison would be a lie.

I know the T-40's highly regarded basses but from a purely aesthetic standpoint I don't think they are better than Fender Anything. Just rip dat active setup out of the Zone and plop in some hot passive pups. It's not like they are hugely collectable or anything.
(or,....get a T-40 and have both?)
Man, I disagree soooo much.
The T-40 is the only non-Rick bass I've ever heard that can truly nail the Rick tone.

I was mainly going from a shallow aesthetic standpoint.
I would play one before I made judgements on sound and playability for sure. I'm just not big on teh looks of T-40s and as much as people like to himm and haww about looks not being important to them (I'm willing to bet a few of them are lying to kick it),....I make no bones about the sex appeal of an instrument ranking high on my list. Sound and playability only slightly trumps aesthetics for me.
YMMV

Agreed on the looks thing. As awesome as I think my G&L sounds, the looks are what eventually sold me on it, especially with the wood grain and the huge black buckers, I think that the thing looks a lot like a Wal, and that jellied me enough. And I agree that the T-40 is more utilitarian in its looks. It's just a matter of the ability to get THE rick tone for a grand less than a real rick. But yeah, the Rick looks are a part of the allure, too.
And you know what, as to the weight thing ... really? Is the difference between an 8 pound and a 10 pound bass really THAT big of a fucking deal? Christ ...

Re: The spite, hate, rage, apathy and mild irritation thread
I think weight does make a difference on smaller framed feeble people such as myself (I have horrible posture) just don't have the structure to support a heavy instrument for long periods of time. I'll never use it as an excuse to cancel practice,....but I could use it as an excuse to buy another 5 stringer.
I see where you are coming from Maz,....it's counter intuitive that a bass might be light as they are by design bigger instruments than guitars,...but my experience has been that Les Pauls have always been heavy fuckers,...which is why I thought your comment was funny. There are plenty of basses out there that are lighter than an LP.

I'm right there with you, but I'm waiting on a 1099. The accountant for our company asked for info back in early december and never sent them out. I'm looking at almost $6k back.

I'm so glad I paid extra for faster shipping when I could have just paid for cheaper shipping and the stuff would have arrived quicker.

How the fuck are you'll getting 3-6 grand back on tax returns,....Fuck,...I'll be lucky to get $200 and considering I owe $150 from last year (thanks to a shitty book keeper at my previous job), Probably more like $50.

Under $14k for income and you get $1k back on top of the rest of your return. You can get a return on the interest on loans ($8k in student loans I've been paying). There's a lot of tax credits and shit you can get.

*Wrings hands menacingly,.....
Maybe I'll get a little more this year than I anticipate. Not sure if I will file joint with my wife or separately,....but I always get a short stack of 1040EZs so that I can see how it plays out for each situation. My wife probably grossed about $24K last year and I made less than $10K as I spent the first part of the year unemployed.
