Yeah,...I'm really over the actives in my bass and to be honest with you,...I played a Carl Thompson that had Kent Armstrong Humbuckers in it was way louder than my Wick.

The biggest thing I'd change about my Warwick however is refret it with a rounder profile Stainless Steel fret wire. Currently it's the stock bell bronze frets with a flat profile. They just sound dull IMO.

I'm sure You'd be popular. :p

...active or passive, no matter, I like both for different things. You can use a monkey wrench as a substitute for a hammer if You don't have a hammer at hand but, You know, nothing wrong with owning a hammer for driving nails.

I like to have a three channel EQ at hand and change the tones on the fly. Some fuzz boxes excel when boosted with a boost pedal OR the active bass preamp pushing it. BUT the passive has its place. High impedance, low output plus a passive tone control works better with some fuzz pedals. :thumb:

Hell yes, Kent Armstrong makes some nice pickups for pretty cheap. He doesn't get enough love in gearhead circles, IMO.

I should mention that that Carl is a passive bass.

The fucker just sings. I played it through my rig and it was so open and clear sounding, almost sounded like a piano...where as with my bass (and I'm sure construction,...pup location, material ect. has just as much of an effect) has a more woody, growly, mid heavy tone.

It blows my mind though because I've definitely heard Thumb Basses that have that clearer zingier tone,...but I don't know if that's a result of shitloads of outboard recording gear,....custom electronics,...the difference between the Neck Throughs and the Bolt Ons (which mine is) or what.

:idk:

yer. i don't know shit about basses. tbe idea of multi-scale to compensate for tension issues once you add a low B and high C string tickles my nerdy interior.

maybe if i put some time in with a nice active bass i'd get it and understand when that'd be useful. but i'm kinda super happy that i DON'T know much about basses. i don't want to start lusting after such big purchase thingies. i'm already broke as butts trying out a few pedals here and there.

Even the damn keyboard players get thier own sticky! Remember teh good old days when the keyboard player had to ride in the back of the van sitting on an amp without heat or a/c?

Good times...good times.

Since time began we've always posted in the guitar thread so does that mean you want the mods to delete/move all the bass posts from the last 5 years or something?

I've never spent a lot of time on a passive, to be honest.....there's just something about the internet that makes me fuck with people. :animal:
