I feel like Multiple delays give you more control. Just my thoughts though. Because you can place them anywhere, in any order, and tweak both...

I did a quick shoegazey demo of my double delay set up. No Rainbow Machine used on this one but maybe next time! :)

I have used multiple delays before...

My board currently consists of 4 delays:

Catalinbread Montavillian
Deja Vu
Giga Delay
Digitech Digidelay

I love the control, and the stacking options.

I use an MXR Carbon Copy for slapback, and an EHX Deluxe Memory Boy for longer delays, rhythmic delays, and oddball noises. I think it's great to have a dedicated slapback pedal, as it allows me to tweak the gain staging and mix level more easily when I use different amps or need to run my amp cleaner or dirtier than normal. I can tweak my slapback repeats to sit at a different place in the mix than my rythmic repeats.
