Feedback Loop: Volume Control?

Post by The Mad Owl »

How do you guys do it?

I have a danelectro fab distortion at the end of my feedback chain... and i can not only control the volume, but the tone of the feedback loop.

I've been wondering if anyone else uses something similar (or different) to deal with the volume issues of having a feedback loop.

I've been thinking about putting a boost at the end of the chain instead and set it to "unity" to see if anything different happens...

OR putting a boost at the BEGINNING of the feedback chain to drive the signal harder through the fx (when clicking between a clean tone and the feedback loop, i don't get a strong signal because there's no driving of the signal)

Yeah, I do a similar thing. Kinda neat to run it into a fuzz or distortion. I like having the HM-2 either after or in the feedback loop; after as a volume control and in as more of a mixer.
But there are loopers with dedicated volume controls, off the top of my head eatyourguitar made one. I haven't looked super deeply into other loopers because I already have one.

I just... don't. I've thought about getting a volume pedal before, and one of those after the looper would do it.

much like people use boosts to drive pedal chains or fix volume drops, i've found the best results by treating a feedback loop in the same fashion...

but all of the filter-based effects just get LOUD no matter what, so i tend to put the dirt at the end of the chain to work with everything.

I have one with a volume knob from eatyour guitar and it comes in very handy, I really don't have any pedals in the loop that really "drive" it but I get a ton of volume and the knob helps me tame it a bit. One thing I did recently that I really like is put a crybaby in mine so I can have a filter when I want it really control the tone of the loop (i have it in a bypass loop in the feedback loop- Loop inception)

Devi's Eye of God also has it's own volume knob. But for my personal use everything I use runs through a pre-amp to moderate any intense volume jumps, but usually volume jumps from a feedback loop are expected and appreciated by my use.

McSpunkle makes a looper called the Samurai switch.

it's what I replaced my CHKCHK BOOM with.

thanks, guys!

i ended up staying with my fab distortion, the boost wasn't cutting it at the end of the chain (but it's a SHO clone, so the crackle when i turn the knob is fucking amazing!)
