I get some really great sounds with an MXR Carbon Copy and a TC Electronic Nova Delay.

The MXR is really warm and natural sounding, and the optional modulation is subtle, usable, and can be manipulated using two internal trim pots. One for depth and one for rate. It has a maximum of 600 ms of delay time which is substantial for a completely analog delay. I absolutely love this pedal.

The Nova is way more high tech with options galore; multi taps, modulation, reverse, dynamic, pan, ping pong, 9 storable settings, tap tempo, the list goes on and on. What really matters here, in my opinion, is sound quality, and the Nova has it in spades. It's crystal clear and the delays can range from warm and dark to exact pristine copies of your original signal. It can be safely operated at 9 volts, but has more headroom and can accept stronger signals if ran at the recommended 12 volts (power supply included)

For the record, I work for neither company and enjoy lots of different delay's. One notable fav is the Line 6 DL4, like so many others. Having three readily accessible presets and a tap tempo is a great plus. I sold mine because it didn't play well with my Triple Rectifier. It was was the second one I owned and it was dying (I told the buyer as much, btw ).

Take a look at the Prosguitarshop.com. They have a STELLAR demo section that's tremendously informative and can save you tons of money and buying things you might not need or want. Just my $2,000 x 10^ -5.

Do you need a pedal with bells and whistles (tap tempo,modes,looper,etc) or the other/simple kind of pedal?

as far as really really simple is concerned, I've always heard great things about that guyatone delay (the micro one). It's supposed to be warm and analog-sounding, and I think it's only got three knobs.

Simple = analog delay IMO

I have two already, but if I was getting a new one I would definitely get the Malekko Echo 600

I would probably go for Malekko 600 ( Bright OR Dark,dunno ) or Dr.Scientist Sunny Day Delay...if the money is not an issue.But if you need a great sounding echo simulation for very cheap,I would say Ibanez DE7,if you can find one.It's better than most of the echo simulations out there,very good and warm sounding.Oscillation is good too,very natural indeed.

I'm probably picking up a carbon copy to replace my superdelay ...can get one for $100-ish used, 3 knobs and a modulation button. Simple. yet versatile.

I'm kinds in this same boat... I'm trying to figure out the best pedal/ pedal combo.

I'm using the digidelay and it's not doing ANYTHING for me. I've been a long time DL4 user and this isn't my cup of tea. I want a good tap tempo, a good strong delay, osc, and a looper

Here's what I'm thinking:
Malekko 616, and RC2= At or below $300 with used RC2
Timebender= $300 (mammoth, but good?)
SMMWH= >$160ish used (possible tone suck and volume drop issues)
DL4= $150 used (quality issues and volume drop)
Headrush and 616= $250 if I could get a good deal on a HR
DE7 and RC2= ($170ish and that's steaking out for good deals) (no tap tempo for delay/ tone suck)
DD7= $150ish used (tone suck/ have to include the bells and whistles in the price)
DD20= $160ish used (tone suck)

So aside from the fact that I have major Malekko GAS, I'm leaning towards the DD7, 20, or SMMWH. Maybe a DL4. These are my most cost effective solutions. I'm trying to score a good deal on an amp at a pawn shop and so I may have more money. In which case I MAY get the DD7 and 616.

No noticeable tone suck on the SMMH, decent quality buffer in there. Most complaints of "volume drop" are user error, the knobs on that thing take some getting used to.

High hopes for the malekkos. Superdelay went out the door to find a new home, maybe I'll get a cc for now.

SMMWH definitely is the tits, but if you want simple that is certainly not the pedal for you. I'd probably go with the Carbon Copy. Whatever you do don't be tempted by the EHX #1 Echo though...
