Oddest place youve ever played a gig
In honour of my band playing a gig here, a 350ft deep cave. Where is the oddest gig youve played or seen?

That's fucking awesome. How'd you set that up?
I'm not sure how odd it is, but I've definitely played shows out in the woods before.

Amazing man, absolutely amazing. Who do you rock in?
Umm. We played in a Shell resistance camp (Corrib Gas Shenanigans over in the West of Ireland). Literally in a field with Eco toilets and Socialism workshops. The power died so we ended our set with an acoustic rendition of one of our older tunes. It went from loud, loud doomjazz to wandering about with a Banjo/Violin/Ocean Drum in a very, very short amount of time.

Street punk type band playing in the backyard of a shit-kicker/preppy kids party. Fucking awkward.

It wasn't the oddest place we played a gig, but my college band opened for Buffalo Tom in drag once. The audience, which was a weird cross section of indie rockers and jocks, seemed somewhat put off by it.
But damn, I would love to be able to say that we'd played in a cave. My high school band played a biker party once... and I mean all-weekend, hundreds of bikers in attendance party. The stage was the host's porch, facing out into his giant yard filled with bikers...
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Where I'm from street punk and preppy kid are the same thing.
I'm excited about this thread. I expect some great stories from fellow ILFers.

Re: Oddest place youve ever played a gig
For me, it was a natural output of the recreational substances and the lacksadasical attitude we had towards the basic realities of a gigging band.
"What'd'ya mean, a setlist?"
"Load out times? Fuck that shit."
"Wait, you want us to play for how long?"
"Soundcheck?"
"Can't drink on stage?"
Fucking hate playing real gigs. I'd Much rather go get wasted in the woods and jam for whoever feels like showing up.

Re: Oddest place youve ever played a gig
I played at an old train station outside of Austin, TX WE were on top of some old locomotives playing into a field. LONG trippy songs. Lots of LSD.
I was playing

into

into

prob. the best bass sound I have ever had.
The other member of my "band" was playing guitar, flute, sax, didgeridoo, and jaw harp through a bunch off effects a sampler and a looper. we were both controlling 2 drum machines sinced together and using the train itself as percussion. we recorded it but the quality was terrible.

Parking garage, not super strange I guess but the sound was boomy and interesting
boxing ring: They wouldn't let us touch the ropes which sucked
Coffee house (i know that's not strange but it was in a mall on a saturday with a line of kids for the easter bunny)
Bowling alley also not strange but they refused to move any of the tables which were bolted down and made us play and set up around them.

Re: Oddest place youve ever played a gig
Setup was a nightmare, so humid and pitch black apart from the floodlights.
We used a inverter and a load of cheap vox battery powered battery amps, as we have trumpet, sax, cello, autoharp (me
) guitar, bass, drums and percussion for a godspeed jazzy noise.
takes 2 mins to drop down as its so deep. dropping a cello and drum kit down was interesting as we had to attach them to the bottom of the cage, this cage in fact

It was immense, sheer crazyness although the 2 hour walk there did nearly kill us all though
