I used to get random nosebleeds like that too. I haven't for years, but I still check the tissue every time I wipe/blow my nose. I think it just has to do with dry skin, and when fall comes around, it tends to aggravate those things(but that's probably not as bad where you are).

Also, that last bit doesn't surprise me at all.
