Opeth-- Heritage

Post by Wes Mantooth »

So I finally got around to listening to this album and I must say I like Watershed a lot better :idk:

I'll certainly still give it a listen once in a while, but there weren't as many stand-out moments in this album :erm:

Still, I appreciate them trying to make each album different while still retaining there sound.

What'd everyone else think?

Not happy during the first listening... it's starting to grow on me though

i mean there are some moments that perfectly show us that heavy is not necessarily a matter of TONE... there are moments that are heavier with low gain crunch than a ton of other bands with higain blast :idk: the solos are epic, intro and outro are wonderful and there is at least one Crimson homage

it's quite a change and i can see how this can be a problem... but just give it a chance, would you? ;)

I loved it and I'm glad they made the kind of album they did. Too many bands find one sound they like and then never do anything different.

Went and saw them live this past Monday also and it was great.

Have this on my iPod with a select few others for intensive listening over the next few weeks. Only heard a track off it, but between this, Mastodon's 'The Hunter', and a bunch of other not so new/heavy things I figure I'll be pretty pleased for a while.
I play.

They were awesome. I have seen them every time they have toured in the past four or five years.

This applies to tuning as well, they sound huger than most drop tuned bands (not this album) and they usually are in standard E or drop D. It really has me re-thinking my C and Drop C tunings... glad I have more than 1 guitar... haven't played in standard E in years and I'm loving it right now.

I'm loving this album too... I can see if you wanted watershed II or ghost reveries II that you would be disappointed... but I'm totally loving this album. Saw then the Sept 19th in Worcester MA... what a show... awesome sound, performance and atmosphere. If you get a chance to catch them this tour... do it.
