Fuzz>Bassballs(or vice versa) question

Post by Big Mon »

Hey guys,I'm gonna be on the market for an EHX Bassballs soon. Is anybody currently using with, either before or after a fuzz? Let me pose a hypothetical here:
I plan on running the following:
MXR Blue Box>Devi US>FH Phantom Octave>bassballs(?)>DOD 440>Mellowtone Singing tree(just the fuzz/dirt/filter section of the board I'm envisioning). Any experiences with a really loud fuzz fed into a Bassballs? Clips? :idk:

Really loud fuzz teds to just force the envelope open and keep it there. In my experience, filters work better in front of everything else, so your dynamics can come through better. Just me though.

Would it make any difference if I was gonna use with guitar? Also, having used a US>DOD envelope follower before, with the sensitivity turned down way low(on the filter),it sounded like the LAL Rattle Crow a good bit. And I'd most likely use the Balls on a low-intensity setting.

I know using a volume pedal before it makes for a foot controlled filter.

Should have never sold my bassballs :( it's about time for a new one. I liked having it before fuzz, but am sure it depends on what you're using.

Brilliant! I've never thought of owning a volume pedal before. Maybe it's time I started.

I imagine it may make a difference, I have never played a US so I dont know, the volume pedal idea sounds good.

I kept the settings on the Bluebox and the Bassballs identical through switch-flipping on a nice, reasonable response curve. Guitar is a Classic Player Jag HH, pickups are stupid hot, into a Hot Rod Deluxe.

Gtr > Russian Black Bassballs (halfway) > Bluebox (3:00, fuzz more than octave) > HRD.

0:13 Bluebox on
0:30 Bassballs on (dist off)
0:50 Bassballs (dist on)

Oops, I left the Timebender on low too on the second.

:15 Bassballs (dist off)
:30 step on Bluebox (3:00)
1:00 dist switch on Bassballs
1:20 fade in GR-55 guitar synth 303 bass. Cheating, I know.

I'm not really a fan of Bassballs > Bluebox at all unless I want that particular sound. With the Bluebox in particular, the gate means that it doesn't sustain for squat and the filter is just on as mentioned.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

Oh.. I used a black Sovtek one if that matters... Also: there are trim pots inside the pedal which are key to dialing it in.
