That said I know what a Wal looks like for the most part.

Hmmm, how about this one:

Nice. My only gripe with Wal's, or at least the only one I've checked out, is the V shaped neck profile is a little off putting. I don't know if they all feature that profile,...but Huff had one in his shop for lamination repairs and I checked out the neck (which was unbolted from the body) and I just didn't like it's feel.

I'd live with a fucking square neck on one of those things just to get the beastly tone.

Problem there is that one's an M/II (EQ sliders & blend vs. VV-TT & switching)...I'd rather have an M/I, which is also usually a bit cheaper than II's even with OHSC. Weird that I want a VV-TT, since I usually prefer active EQ's, but the M/I's just growl for DAYS.

Thanks for the poke on that one, tho...it IS gorgeous.

I hope to someday own a Wal. They are sooooooooooooo fucking expensive though, plus the only reason I'd buy one is because I'm a Tool fanboy...fuck my life. I need another bass and moar fuzz.

I can find no fault in your desire for a Wal, Jwar. I have to say that I'm with Mr. Carl on the beastly tone of Wal Basses. While I won't claim to be a Tool fanboi (although I thank Maynard for introducing me to The Flower of Life and the Merkaba Meditation, and good wine [the wife is the Tool/Maynard fanboi-girl]); I think JC's tone is astonishingly good and you can probably attribute a significant portion of that to his use of Wal basses, and a small portion to his use of GK amps and the rest goes to his pedalboard.

Ahh, didn't know that. Actually I don't know anything about them. At first I thought it was pretty ugly, but looking over it I think it's well-designed. I like that the pickup ring/pickguard thing also acts as a thumb rest for the entire playing area. And I like the numbered bridge notches.
