I have 5 pedals on my board but have been dragging two extra along to gigs but mostly because I've been experimenting with alternate versions of things I already have on my board. Some shit's about to get replaced and I'm about to pare down big time. Like possibly just using 4 pedals (including a tuner). Tuner, overdrive, fuzz and delay-ay-ay-ay.

FWIW, I play in a power pop/indie rock band. I have no desire to do anything ambient at all so I like to keep things simple. My philosophy is quality over quantity.

However, I am a bit of a pedal collector but it's mostly because I'm too lazy to actually sell the pedals I don't use. I'm not hoarding them and have no sentimental attachment to any of them. So if I can get everything together, expect a giant sell-off thread in the B/S/T forum.

A minimal board will satisfy me like a frozen pizza will, it'll prevent me from starving but I'll continue to crave the good stuff.

This thread inspired me to dump some stuff on my small board.
Now on BST

Shameless plug aside I realized that I am actually only using about 4 of the pedals on the small board at all, the other three don't get stomped.

The giant boards have my Looping stuff so I like to have all the textures, but I bet they could stand a diet too.

ha, I also have justified multiple boards by having different boards for use with different amps.
sure enough, Doomidrive + MKI Tonebender sound radd thru the 18-watt Marshall, BFVR, V4, the Electric head, everything.

I'm thinking I'm going to hold off on selling anything for at least 6 months, though.
I have a few pedals I've bought more than once because of seller's remorse, I'm in no hurry to feel that again.
I also know that urge for maximum psychedelic fuckery will come again soon enough.
Maybe partying will help.

I started with a small board (as everyone), then got more and more pedals, downsized, got more pedals, downsized again, got some more pedals, and downsized again. Right now there are 4 pedals on my board.

I love downsizing. Big boards irritate me. Also if I don't use a pedal I sell it, unless there's some sort of connection like custom made or if I've owned it for a long time.

I never have any money so my board never grows above five pedals at any given time. Six is really pushing it. Six will never last long

5 boxes on a board. Is that minimal? I cut a couple wooden boards to match the inside footprint of a specific toolcase, and with some foam, they'll sit perfectly securely inside...my main board holds od, main dirt, phase, delay, and tuner. Open box, plug-n-play. I have a dozen or so other pedals, mostly muffs and fuzz, and love being able to throw any of the 2nd stringers/different flavors on the floor in front of the rig at home or to change the tone for a different jam. A drummer I played with used to call me a "sonic tinkerer."
I don't mind turning pedals over. If I don't love it, it'll go.
Special low-frequency version.

I've gone as minimal as a volume pedal and done just fine. It is fun though to have a bunch of pedals at your feet though.

My gigging/rehearsal-board consists of tuner-->fuzz/wah-->vibe-->(for cleans)-->phaser(for the stuff with fuzz)-->delay. all thrown at an slightly overdriven amp. I'd say quite minimal. Not that I'm not into using pedals, it's just that I use the ones at my board the most.
