That was certainly a point in the Roland 301 and 501s I had's favors back in the day.
Not only could you twiddle knobs or stare blankly at the bouncing VU meters, and look almost hip doing it, they were conveniently mounted so no matter how wasted I was I could figure it out.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.
The only secondary function I really fuck with on my El Cap is the reverb and sometimes tape crinkle. But I definately have them memorized and find it easy to use. If I was on shrooms I probly couldn't figure it out but I'd probly be too busy vegetating on shrooms to care
Currently the 2 I use the most are the Digitech Timebender and the Subdecay EchoBox, bot are great and can get really nice or really strange depending on how you set them up.

I love my big box DMM. Best delay ever!! However I recently sold my Malekko 616 along with some other pedals to fund a guitar purchase and missed it so much I just rebought a used one today (bought used, sold for the same price, then rebought for the same price - stupid!!). I thought that it was too 'cloudy' for my liking and then I realized I had only ever used it at a reheasal space without my amp and I was using one of those JRM2000's - after watching a bunch of demos I wanted it back so I pulled the trigger.......
I might actually buy a small clone since I like the chorus of the DMM but I want it independent from the DMM - plus the DMM is so fucking big!! I might buy a Malekko chorus perchance instead and have a 616/Chorus or the DMM.........
My personal vote is for the El Cap, but I have been thinking about getting an actual delay pedal for delay purposes, since I primarily use the El Cap for reverb/modulation echo walls behind what I am playing, and I still desperately want to try the Endangered Audio AD4096, but canNOT get past the price tag. Such a bummer, since it has all the features I would want. Young Pedals Time Stomp looks great too, but sounds super dark with no way to really alter that, so, looks like my El Cap may remain king of the pedal board for now.
