Is this the same as the Maxon 'Multi-mode Delay' DM-01?

you could use a s&h in place of the LFO, though you'll most likely still get some bending/portamento between times depending on what type of control you use. i've been thinking about this for a looooong time... :p

thats almost what the p(fax) is if you use a pt2399 as the delay element. i found adding more repeats muddied the definition of the random pitches especially when you start getting noise form the pt2399. so i did not use any feedback and there is no repeats.

you can do it without digital control, although that might give you more options. i just used a noise generator and a S/H circuit at the gate of a JFET set up as a VCR on the pt2399 clock pin. instant free jazz.

heres the old demos if you want to hear the results.

there's some shots of the "lfo" on a scope at the top of this post and a lot of links to info on generating "truly random" noise via analog means.

very interesting!
i had a feeling that added repeats would fuck things up - i assume it just gets real hash-y?
the approach you used is exactly what i was thinking about, though i'm more interested in it as a subtle effect as a part of the delay, rather than a whole new effect onto itself.
"truly random" is a deep subject, without a doubt...
