no, i was thinking you could alternate between using the Celestions or using the other speakers depending on what sound you wanted. i'd probably use the Celestions 90% of the time because i like the warm round sound and keep the JBL cabinet in the house to plug in when i wanted it; if you wanted both sounds for playing out, you could use an A/B switch. i've never tried mixing speaker types, though i know some folks are really enthusiastic about it...i just don't have that many speakers around.

Can you just put an AB switch in between amp and speakers?

so i just cranked my VOX pathfinder 15 watt for the first time in a while. for a $100 solid state amp, it's surprisingly a really impressive piece of equipment.

It has to be some special switch, but they exist.

This is what it looks like. Funny thing is that I tried my unloved H&H with my buddys old bass cab, cause he needed something so that I wouldn't overpower him and it is really nice! Very different from the Roost too. So if he sells me the cab to buy something more potent than his 12W tranny I will have two sweet ass amps. And then I will probably run modulation and tons of reverb into the H&H and parts of the Fuzz into the Roost. That would be freaking great.

Oh, and we found a bassist with an Orange rig. I hope he is any good.

I went down this same road; I am a pedal guy. I ended up with a silver face Pro Reverb, mine is a 73 I think. It definitely handles a gig with a drummer. In fact, I have never been able to turn it past 4 on the dial.
The Pro Reverb is the "baby Twin" --it's the same amp as a Twin in nearly every respect except that the power amp is only 2 6L6s for about 40-45 watts. The great thing about buying an amp like this is you almost never lose a dime. Unless you trash it to pieces you just about always come out ahead when you sell it. It's like free rent.

so there's a marshall jcm900 mkiii 50 watt head on craigslist for $450...is that a decent price, and is it a pretty decent amp? i basically need a nice clean tone, first tube amp etc.

its a good amp and a reasonable price. I've personally never really dug the marshall clean tones... kind of run of the mill if you ask me. And, if I'm not mistaken, the MKIII is a single channel amp, so you're going to get a decent amount of breakup/overdrive at higher volumes. That could be a positive or negative for you depending on what you're looking for. hope my 2 cents helps!

To answer the question about two cabs on one amp and switching between them safely. Radial makes a cab switcher. You cant make it yourself cause the brief noload will kill the amp.
