help me pick out a reverb
Im gonna be buying a reverb in the next few weeks, but im completely lost. the only reverb ive ever used was the reverb on my peavey bandit 112. and i think i only moved the dial past 0 a few times. I dont really know what im looking for so im guessing something versatile. Im looking to use it to play post-rock, shoe gazer, and ambient stuff. im willing to buy used and my price limit is $150. rack units are welcome

The digitech hardwire's might be a good place to start because it does every verb there is at least pretty well and can be had used for under a bill. Once you find a flavor you like you can look for something more specialized.

I've heard the Neunabar Wet is really great though I haven't used one...but it might not have enough flexibility and costs a bit too much ($200).

Go to a GC and try out a Hall of Fame. Right at your price point, flexible, and can definitely do ambient / post rock stuff.

if you're thinking about the RV-3, look at the Muza 900, which is a similar idea to the RV-3 but implemented at a 21st-century level. for rack stuff, the Yamahas FS mentions above are classic staples as is the Alesis MidiVerb II, and all of those can be found used for less than $100 in good condition.

Re: help me pick out a reverb
If I hadn't just bought a Magicstomp, I'd look at that Muza. I think I might have been happier with the simplicity, but I'll get past the learning curve soon, I hope.
(Bonus to the Magicstomp is that it is much more than just a reverb/delay box. I set up the Multimode Filter with Hi-pass/Lo-pass/Hi-pass, resonances maxed on each band, and the frequencies set to knob control -- it is indescribably cool for crafting a unique sound.)

I have the Tech 21 Boost RVB and it is extremely versatile and way underrated in my opinion.
If you can find the old black and gold version used, it'll probably run around $100.

guitarists love using bass gear!

(the top left knob is 'Room', anywhere from small room size to a giant cathedral! and the filter knob filters out low end of your signal being reverberated, to reduce muddiness)

Re: help me pick out a reverb
okay so im gonna go to my local music store, alto music, and try out the hall of fame, boss rv-3, the hardwire r-7 and then muza if they have it. anything else i should look at? ive looked at some of the rack ones on ebay, i could get one for around 50 or under, based on the ones i try tomorrow if nothing really pleases i may go for a rack unit, cause of price and if i dont like it i can resell it and buy something else
