Hoof, ECT, Internet: Compare and Contrast

Post by dorfmeister »

I had an ECT; kind of miss the big crunchy bassy heavy overdrive it brought. Looking to get back into that territory....would buy another ECT but it is a bit too expensive, big, and feature laded for what I want.....so how are the hoof and the internet similar/dissimilar in terms of sound...not taking into account feedback switches and other stuff I don't care about....I keep asking these questions and no one answers but I like doing it anyway.

in my honest opinion I would just wait for an ECT to show up in the BST.

I have had mine for almost a year and I don't think I will ever trade it. Slays everything with the exception of a few pedals that for now I am not picking up.

I hear you ..... but if I can get something cheaper...that can do pretty much the same thing in a smaller box....I'd go for it.

Aen is doing the Baby Thundaa that might be something you could look into.

I noticed that.....but he has left in the feedback feature....which is the least interesting part of it for me....and left out the input gain adjustment.....and I thought that was a great part of the pedal.

The Internet is pretty good for dark/bassy fuzz, can't compare it to an ECT but that's how I would describe it

Well that is what I was thinking.....plus I like the stripped down feature set....pretty straightforward.

The Internet has a good amount of range, from subtle to hairy, especially with the "pr0n" switch. Pretty bassy as Wes said. I couldn't get nice low gain settings out it like the video demos, but it could be my set up (bass w/ flats, ss bass combo) rather than the pedal.

Hoof is similar, but not as fizzy as the Internet on lower gain settings. The Hoof mainly does one sound with some subtle tweaks with the tone and fuzz knobs. The fuzz knob controls saturation of the fuzz rather than the characteristic of the fuzz, which is pretty much the same in all settings. I didn't notice much from the shift knob; it's not useless, but I don't think you'd be missing much if you got a 3 knob version.

Out of these two, I'd go Internet, but different strokes. Seems more present than the Hoof to me.
I haven't had any experience with the ECT.
& all my experience is with a jazz bass; no guitar experience.

Looks interesting but I would never pay $180 for it. Used if it were a fair bit cheaper. I think I like the looks of the Internet more.

The Trim is sort of there on the baby thunder, it's a fixed 3.3k instead of a 5k pot. Also we still have 8 Ronald Raygun Baby THundaas that ship with our badass LP.

Shit.

I forgot about the Gnomeratron. Do you think what I was gettting out of the ECT I had would be inside that monster box? Does it have an input gain knob? If not do you think he would do it custom on one?
