Maybe highlight the gear used a little bit more (with the full model name, not just Schecter? Or link to a section with an overview of the gear used and a photo of the settings.) Maybe even start the clips off with the clean signal so we have a baseline?

Your playing was fine. I've been paying attention to the really popular reviews on Youtube, etc. lately and I've noticed they all at least do some of this:

1) Single notes
2) Power chords
3) Maybe some classic rock riffs, if it makes sense for the pedal
4) Chords

And maybe this:
5) Playing the song that this kind of effect is recognizable on, especially for modulation.

Play some variation on that stuff and you'll be all set! IMHO it doesn't even matter if you're a good guitarist as long as you can hear the effect and the notes aren't buzzing

Another +1 to having a small "control" clip of your rig clean to be able to compare. I like just doing the same riff over and over, and tweaking the settings in the middle. You can get a better idea of a pedal's capabilities that way through comparison, instead of "Here's this setting while my guitar is set up like this" and then "I'm changing the pedal settings but also going to play something completely different."

That can work too. I've noticed that sometimes they're trying to highlight a particular feature of the pedal. The AB-Synth in oscillation mode might need some different playing to highlight the note decay, for example, and controlling the pitch with the guitar's volume knob.

The other thing I've figured out is that some pedals just sound good in one setting, and reviewers like Pro Guitar Shop know this and play that one setting (without tweaking the knobs once.) Nothing wrong with that; they're trying to sell a pedal by showing off its best sound. (I like Pro Guitar Shop, don't get me wrong. I also realize they're a business trying to sell me stuff.)

I'm still thinking of maybe doing that so people have a better idea of how the settings change, I'll always through some more metal riffs in there too

Looks pretty good to me, especially for the first one! How did you embed the soundcloud clips like that?

I actually did a quick write up of the absynth recently. I made sure to put *will edit occasionally* because it's such a complex pedal (lots of sounds)

In Blogger it allows you to either compose the post like a word processor (sort of) or you can edit the html content. So I just inserted the embed codes for each clip and it worked quite well

Nice review, seemed to cover all the bases to me, and nice song choices! The Hold Steady are like my favourite band at the moment. The Internet looks like a really cool pedal.

Wasn't hard to recognise, I don't think I've played any song other than Hot Soft Light for the last 2 days and I've been listening to them a ridiculous amount all month.

Anyways, anyone have suggestions for lead licks I should learn for these demos? I'm not much of a lead player so nothing too challenging
