haven't built in a while

Post by ohsojayadeva »

...and since i'm on a queen kick this week, i decided to order up all the bits to build a may queen. all the reports i've read on diystompboxes.org are glowing, and i am a fan of the j201, so this should prove to be interesting.

expect reports.

build this pedal now and thank me later!

i've got it pretty much finished. as i said in another thread i don't have a 0.022uf cap at the moment - one is on the way. that particular cap is for a shelf on the hi end, so i thought i'd go ahead and box it up and see if it was serviceable.

freaking awesome. gobs of gain. very, very saturated and not just in a queen way. with my setup (strat with high output humbucker + pedal + vox ac15) i was also getting some pretty convincing brown sound happening. there's not as much low end as say... my hyperion, or my red llama clone... but the place where this pedal exists seems to be in 'perfect guitar frequency' land. with a band you're going to be very present. i'm used to fighting with bass and lots of keyboards, so this is something i'm familiar with.

harmonics and sustain seem to just leap out of the fretboard. i spent the 2nd half of band practice laughing because it just sounded that good.

it's a dead simple build as well. i put the board together in one sitting and boxed it up the next morning. as is i'm not really sure it even needs the tone cap i mentioned above... so when it arrives, i'll put it in, see if i still like it, and if needed just clip it right back out.

can't recommend this pedal enough! i'll try to get a pic this week. i got a sparkly red box from pedal parts plus, with a red knob and a red LED. if you get the idea.
