I discovered powder coating so I'm making some attenuators and I have no idea what color people like and whats ugly here on ILF. also if your a cheap like me and you think that utility pedals should not be painted ever. please say so and I'll save the powder coat for the pedals. as it stands right now, I'm leaning towards grey hammer tone or gloss white. and probably the same for the pedals. just for comparison, here is EH signal pad I plan to do a one knob no footswitch thing but I can still do it with a footswitch if you want. no power needed.
Your thinking of a hot plate. A good hot plate can suck up 100 watts and convert it into heat. This is just a volume knob that goes anywhere on your pedalboard. Totally different.
the word attenuate is the opposite of amplify. two words that describe things getting quieter and louder. so in the very broad sense, a hot plate is an attenuator but they are different. you would never ever plug your guitar straight in to a hot plate cause nothing would happen. likewise, you would not put a pedal between your amp and your cab cause it would start a fire.

go for it. you'll have a broken amp, a broken pedal, and a fire

i'm with ya. both are actually attenuators, granted different types used in different manners but both attenuate the sound. THD says their "hot plate" is an power attenuator and in the old days i remember "hot plate" being used to describe a power amp attenuator. i didn't think that the term was technical.
also...i thought that pedal between the amp & cab thread was a joke.

Nope, that's an attenuator. Hotplate is a tradename for the THD attenuator. EHX marketing using a bit of licence there with language for a volume pot in a box.
Good deals done with all these guys Canada, we put the "u" in satire
kleenex lost a lawsuit for the name cause everyone was using it as a generalized synonym for tissue. in the same way, I have no problem calling a hot plate a hot plate. for a more accurate term "partial dummy load" or in the case of THD "partial dummy load and a switch for full dummy load with emulated line out"
back on topic, people want cheap unpainted attenuators with footswitch I think. color voting is spread out with no clear winner but white is getting love and its already in stock. so maybe 10 raw and 5 white. powder coat is an option that will cost me some $ but its an option if you want it. I wanna put the knob on the side so you don't step on it. if you want it with no switch you have to ask for it. this thread will eventually die and ill make a new one in B/S/T. give me a couple weeks.
I did and its yummy. if you get an attenuator, I will include a fresh sammich that will be totally nasty and rotten when it arrives in a box with your attenuator that now smells like rotten sammiches.
