I play a tele with a cheap soapbar at the neck and a switchable mustang in the middle. I can get all the treble I need at the bridge, and thicker p90 tones at the neck, adding the mustang pickup just...adds more.

And it just so happens that my two favorite fuzzes happen to be the AB and US.

Cool! I've bought a LOT of pedals in the past year, and the Algal Bloom and US are my favourites as well.

If anything, I may do something similar to what you've done, and at least get a Lollar soapbar P-90 in the neck. I've read that you can get volume discrepancies with a single coil Tele bridge pickup and a P-90 in the neck, but I'm sure it can be fixed with some adjustments. I guess I'd actually really like to keep the original bridge pickup (as I'll be getting an AmStd Tele) and see what I can do about matching the output of the P-90.

Any experiences with that?

I love it to bits and I love fuzz to bits!
Mine has a humbucker in the neck though. It's a seymour duncan jazz I believe.
There is a huge volume difference between the neck and bridge... however I'm not sure how I'd live without it now.
It makes so much more sense to me than the other way around.
I use the bridge for most of my distorted rhythm stuff, and the neck for leads and single note stuff.
I love the extra kick it gives me. Worst comes to worst and you don't like it, you become very good friends with your volume knob! I think everyone should be anyway, but it makes a bigger difference on telecasters than most other guitars I'm used to.
In terms of fuzz, I have an Algal Bloom and an AB Synth. They both sound awesome with my tele.

The only problem you'll have if you modify your tele, is you'll want another so you can have one that's stock too.
This has happened to me, and I got mine all fucked already!

Well I went to a tele sized humbucker in the bridge but I mostly use it coil tapped. It does have an output difference but I am almost always on the p90 and use the bridge for certain applications.

I got around the humbucker volume jump by putting a Dimarzio Pre B1 in the bridge spot. It's really high output, like double what a stock tele pickup is. Still retains some of the tele character jangle and twang but also puts out a nice aggressive bite when pushed. So no volume jump when switching to the humbucker (a Seymour Duncan 59). Best part is the HB is split, so with a 5 way switch this tele hits all the bases and then some. The middle position using both is pure heaven.

Another inquiry for anyone that knows:

Does anyone know, based on NAMM 2011 or other news, if there are going to be any nice updates to the American Standard Telecasters this year? I'm wondering if I should wait a little longer to get a 2011 production model, or if that's unnecessary.

the trend on the 2010 strats was high mass block and other parts were upgraded in terms of denser metals. I guess the idea was to increase sustain and sharp pick attack but as a side affect you also increase brightness and weight. not sure what they are doing with the tele's but if i had to guess it was probably more in that direction. I'm all for it on strats but like I said b4, tele gets its sound from ugly brass double saddles on a ashtray bridge. they also changed the main 3 noiseless pickups and they have 3 new noiseless pickups that you can buy for strat or tele. remember it was scn, hot csn, vintage scn. they changed and called it something else. but I'm not sure what models they are putting them in now. probably just the deluxe american tele w/ S1 switching but possibly the am std as well.
