new neck humbucker for my tele custom...considering P-rails?
I have a telecaster custom RI that i simply adore...however the previous owner swapped out the fender neck humbucker for a DiMarzio PAF-style humbucker. I'm considering getting a seymour duncan P-Rails pickup so I can nail down some different tones...basically the PAF is a little on the muddy side. I have an american tele pickup in the bridge. I'm looking for a humbucker with better definition/clarity. That, or I'm going straight-up P90 with it. If I got a fender-size humbucker i'd have to replace the pickguard (not the end of the world but I don't want to if I don't have to). I'm looking for suggestions or advice from anyone whose had experience with P-Rails or with tele customs. kthxybye.

You could buy a Fender style humbucker from GFS
http://store.guitarfetish.com/Vintage-Split-Humbucker-Classic-Fender-Style_c_175.html
It also comes in Gold, Bartolini makes guitar pickups that are ( in your situation) worth considering. I'd also check out Hanson pickups, probably the best I've ever tried, also pretty expensive.

The gfs pickups are intriguing for the price. I'll have to poke around their website when I'm not at work so I don't get accused of looking at fetish websites :X
whatever I go with I'll get some audio together, although I use the guitar more for weird noisescapes and drones and never really learned how to play proper guitar blah blah blah I'm a drummer. ::hides::

Does it have 250k pots? It might be the pots not the pickups.
Unfortunately you have to compromise.

The pots are stock 250k's. Would I be changing out the tone or volume or both? Would I need to change the other pups' pots as well? Kinda don't want to mess with the bridge pickup sound I have goin...

Get the Lollar clone of the original Fender Wide Range (that was cunife).
I was lucky enough to grab a couple of original wide ranges for my Tele Deluxe reissue : it's night and day, you really see what they were meaning when they come up with this design : fat, humbucker like tele tone. So I wouldn't trust anything else than original ones or Lollar clones.
