A beat up, new strat. It's so obvious that you bought it like that, the wear doesn't look natural at all. It's like those jeans the guy from Nickleback is wearing in that earlier post: douche jeans.

I've got a floyd rose in my strat; I don't use the trem bar. I lock the nut and use the microtuners, very useful. Plus, it looks less like a strat, which is a good thing because they're so common it's getting to be painful to see or play them, however comfortable and great they are.

So then, no new Strat? I think that is kind of silly. Also, having a Floyd Rose on a guitar simply so it doesn't look like a strat? Trust me, I don't think your fooling many people. I don't really understand why it's painful to see Strats being used. They are really versatile guitars and like you said, are very comfortable. So that's why I use them :idk: Then again, I would totally rock a PRS SE One, and if I had the dough, I would get a fancy boutique Grosh Electrajet, so who am I to say...

After having tried several of them, I remain firmly unconvinced that any of the insanely expensive boutique amps (Divided by 13, Wizard, 3 Monkey, etc) are doing anything beyond not sucking which is nice, except that THOUSANDS of other, massively less expensive amps manage to not suck equally as much.

Maybe my ears are retarded but I honestly can't tell what the $4000 price tag is doing to the tone. Are you supposed to leave it on? Is that how it works?

The second I see one of these up on a stage, I'm instantly deafened to any redeemable aspect of the music that's being played and become openly antagonistic to the band. Maybe it's a weird hang up and it's entirely my problem but if you go trough the trouble of parading your displaced sense of priorities and disgusting vanity in my face, I really can't help but notice, now can I?

So... Anything but Strats, Teles, Les Pauls and SG's then? ;)

Hey now! Vees fit into this too and they are cooler then everything else :p

I actually like all those guitars, Vs included.
I really couldn't really give a crap if people think a guitar I'm playing pigeonholes me into some kind of genre.
Some guitars are better at doing certain things than others, it's a fact. I suppose people might be justified in their expectations, if they see me climb up on a stage with a Jazzmaster. But then they might realize how very, very wrong they were.

Four grand isn't really that much for many middle aged dudes to drop on a hobby. I think the only really offensive thing about midlife crisis tone chasing is how boring and predictable it can be. Which is why my answer to the original post is:

a Strat.

Baxandall: It was the third TITD album, they dropped the guitars and went all synth. Pretty bold. That was the last album with the original lineup, after that they were basically a metal band and its been a rotating cast surrounding Steve Austin. They have always remained interesting though. Funny how Austin's setup is basically Santana's, PRS' into Mesa Boogie... but he specialises in horrible and dissonant "wrong" sounding music and Santana is all about laying down the perfect teflon shit. Music so smooth it doesn't touch the fucking sides.

I do not think priorites come in to play when you are talking about dudes spending 4,000 on a piece of gear. Just because most people cant afford(or do not wish to spend) 4,000 bucks on an amp does not mean that the dudes who have them sacrificed eating for four years to get one. Trust me....chances are if you have an amp that costs that much either A. You are an older dude with a good CAREER or B. Your mom and dad support your ass!! Hahaha I am never one to say shit about what people spend on certain gear just because I do not care for it because I know what I spend on pedals and sometimes it can be embarassing. :thumb:

I'm not talking about buying a solid gold, ruby encrusted, cocaine filled Lamborghini Countach who's performance, quality and market value is incontestably, verifiably superior to other, less expensive cars. In this case, the price hike reflects a very real, however unnecessary advantage to be enjoyed by those who are lucky or hardworking enough to be able to afford it. Opulence for the opulent.

What I am saying is that I have found no such condition explaining the high price of these amps and am yet to have anybody demonstrate these supposed advantages in any sort of compelling manner. Because of that, I call total and utter BULLSHIT on the inflated perception of their worth and feel disdain towards the people who perpetuate this notion. Obviously demand dictates market value. It's just a sad affair when a market is driven by an immaterial, placebo-like sense of value which only yields reward if customers allow themselves to entirely ignore their sense of objectivity.

I'm all for the "whatever makes you happy", though I guess what I was trying to say is that I can't help but to feel offended whenever this implies the pure blowing of $3000 up one's arsehole.

i suppose a nice car is out of the question too?
:whateva:

this turned out to be an eye opening thread.
makes me realize how much guitar players are offended by each other, for no reason at all.
nothing new. but it's interesting that bassists aren't usually like that ..... :poke:

Q: how many guitar players does it take to change a light bulb?

A: all of them! 1 to actually do it and all others stand around saying they could do it better.

Hey, as a bass player, I'm actively trying to offend others, instead of being offended. As a result, I would like to tell you to fuck off for no apparent reason.

 Go on talkbass.com and sadly you will see there is a lot of same-ism.... really though, as long as it works, sounds ok and plays ok I'll give it a spin. Sure I have stuff I like better then others but, in a pinch... why the fuck not? :idk:
