A/DA Flanger clones

Post by BlindtoFaith »

Any worth owning out there? I saw that Ibanez made the AF2, which I guess is based off of the A/DA but it is huge and has a Paul Gilbert autograph. Hahahaha

That Ibanez thing is nothing like the A/DA.

There's a Frostworks? Frostbite? I think it's called, something like that, that's a decent clone, stupid knob layout but decent clone, I don't think it's cheap though, or even know if they still make it now A/DA is back in the game.

Most clones will be by individual builders, there aren't any big cloners making them, you can pick them up at a reasonable price used still, or commission someone to build you one.

Yeah when I listened to the demo of the AF2 they mentioned the AD/A and I did not think it was close to that at all

AFAIK the Ibanez is the same circuit although it is fixed on a single harmonics setting (no switch). I've built a lot of A/DA flangers and the Ibanez is a lovely adaptation. They did the same thing HBE did and used the MN3007 in place of an SAD1024. Actually, all that legwork was done on DIY stomps and then 6 months later a couple pedals started showing up on the market with that specific adaptation. ;)

Do you still currently build an A/DA styled pedal?

I don't build them any more. Discontinued them a year or two back. They occasionally show up used. I would seriously consider the Ibanez though. Its a great pedal.

HBE that was it, I knew they out and out took the work of DIY stompboxes for theres (Infact I think even the PCB layout was basically a rip off).

But i'm still not convinced on the Ibanez, I seem to recall seeing some guts that backed up my theory that it was a very different pedal in design and I definitley know of some people that have been dissapointed with it, however, I will eat my words if you find them and prove me wrong

The layout HBE uses is the original A/DA layout with the BBD section altered.
