Shin Ei Companion FY2 fuzz box clones?

Post by Snufkino »

Does anyone know of any pedalbuilders who make good clones of the old FY2 fuzz box? Or if there are any current pedals that are more or less based on them?

MJM China? I think thats a clone of the Univox Superfuzz, and in turn I think the Shin Ei is a clone, or at least a variation on that?

Also TYM make one called the Fuzzilla, along with SHITLOADS of other clones that are pretty faithful to the originals

Thanks. I keep coming across that page and never bookmark it. Such good artwork on those pedals too.

the univox superfuzz is the rebranded version of the shin ei fy6 superfuzz, it's not the same as the companion fy2. there aren't nearly as many fy2 clones as there are fy6 (superfuzz) clones. GGG has a fy2 kit and there's another pedal that i can't remember the name of which is a fy2 for bass guitar or something like that. i have a sneaking suspicion that it's the pedal on this pic here viewtopic.php?f=149&t=393&start=2475#p147549 underneath the maxon ad999 but yeah, i'm not sure. you can still get the shin ei fuzzwah pedals for cheap which have the same circuit in a huge brick enclosure.

Thanks. Ghost effects seem pretty cool and are based in the UK, which is a plus. I'll look into that. And the fridgebuzz rising fuzz seems great, and cheaper than the uber-expensive Fuzzilla. I do wish someone would do a straight two-knob clone of the original though. Tone shaping on this kind of fuzz seems a bit pointless.

I've been working on a pedal for a while which is based on the FY2. I hoped to have it done by now, but I just keep dragging my feet :picard:

I'll finish this thing some day.

I've got a ggg FY2 clone that will be making its way to the BST forum when I finally get around to posting it...

Federic Effects (Also in the UK) make several versions of a "Companion"-style fuzz..not to mention a wide variety of other clones and original ideas.

How easy is that to build? I have a crappy solder iron, some solder but very little experience in combining the two.

Very easy.... as long as you don't put anything in backwards  One of my first builds was using their FY2 PCB, I put one part in backwards and didn't notice intill I had the whole thing wired  took a moment to fix but I should have known better.
