Making a footswitch?

Post by Kaptink »

So I have a Fender Princeton 65 and it came without a footswitch and I was thinking that I could make a cheap one rather than buying one.
The manual says it needs a remote footswitch with a serial number of P/N 028890, only needs to be one foot-switch and no L.E.D.

I'm not really sure how to make it however so I have a few questions:
Is all I need a jack and a DPDT footswitch?
how would I wire it up?
And do I need a Momentary or Latching footswitch?

If anyone could help me with these questions it would be a great help :thumb:

Normal on/off stomp will work fine. Doesn't need to be DPDT. Just wire one side to the ground and one to the hot (if the jack is mono it will be the only two terminals). Momentary will only work while you're holding it down, so prob not what you want.

It depends on the amp's channel switching circuitry. Or pedal.

For example, the Jam Man looper needs momentary switches if you want to do a DIY patch up/down and loop activate pedal. The temporary voltage drop caused by the momentary switch causes a relay to flip-flop. Or maybe it's a digital logic. Not sure what exactly, but momentary is needed. :thumb:

Thanks for the replies. I ended up using a dpdt switch I had laying around and it works fine :) This was a lot less complex than I was thinking it would be.

Now all I need is to put it into a small enclosure and I'm done

Yea, dpdt will def work, just a more "advanced" switch for the application is all I was getting at. Glad you got it set up! I've learned many things in life are less complex than they first may seem.

Get a cheep ladle from you local grocery store, cut the handle and drill the hole.
Of course it looks like a chrome boob but works great.

 I already brought A small plastic enclosure from maplins and set it up but I like the Idea of the ladle space boob.

Edit: and the total cost <£6, Fender foot-switch: from looking online around £30
