Beat Happening
I love them. Who else? You Turn Me On and Jamboree are two of my favorite records of all time.
Any other good twee/indie/pop groups I should listen to?

Re: Beat Happening
Love Beat Happening! If you like that you should check out Calvin Johnson's solo albums too! Not to mention his band with Doug Martsch (of Built to Spill), The Halo Benders. Also Dub Narcotic Sound System (with Jon Spencer)... As far as twee goes... The Vaselines for GODSSAKE!!! Comet Gain were pretty good. The Delgados. I think Belle and Sebastian are still doing twee to this day!

Re: Beat Happening
I knew there was a reason I liked you 7#9...
Calvin has his moments, but I'm more a Rose Melberg guy myself...
How big a sissy do you want to be?
I would try to find a mediafire of some old Sarah Records comps and see who tickles your fancy.
Tullycraft though. Fucking Tullycraft. Give Old Traditions, New Standards a spin and if you don't like it, you're in the wrong genre anyways.
Speaking of B&S, everything I've heard from God Help The Girl has been great!

Re: Beat Happening
Hmmmm... I always loved people's covers of Beat Happening songs (Yo La Tengo, Luna, etc), but never got into Beat Happening much myself. I might have to remedy that...
Bishop Allen have some of that "endearingly cute ramshackle pop song" thing going on, though. Oh, and early Unbunny stuff - fission romance the west has some moments of sheer genius. Don't know if either would quite make the cut as "proper" twee, though.
Other stuff that wasn't necessarily twee, but are worth exploring for the 90's indie-rock edjimication would include Velocity Girl, Versus, the Pacific Ocean, Seam, The Spinanes (ESPECIALLY the first album), Unrest, The Magnetic Fields, The 6ths... damn, I'm going to have to check my collection for more...

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Hi5 on the Spinanes jrmz!
I haven't given Bishop Allen a listen in a couple years, but their monthly EPs were great!
The Magnetic Fields' 69 Love Songs is a must.
Was that you I was talking about Velocity Girl with?
Oh did I mention Pam Berry? You know how awesome Pam Berry is? Weezer wrote a fucking song about her!

And since you like Calvin...

Re: Beat Happening
Dude fuck yes.
i want a K tattoo so bad.
I also had a Twee radio show one day a week for 3 hours for two years.
I have more twee than god.
there's too much good shit.
Definitely a few important ones mentioned already.
Tullycraft's Beat Surf Fun is pretty much the reason i got into twee! the summer isn't over! GET INTO IT!
Sarah Records. Probably the most important label in my life. it's got the best shit you can find. The field mice? OH MY GOD THE FIELD MICE. Sarah was to the UK what K was to america.
another one of my favourites to this day is Tiger Trap, BH has a song about them.
Black Tambourine is perfect Fuzzy twee, as is Fuzzbox.
honestly check out the c86 cassette. it's got so much good twee and c86 on it.
if only you lived in PA i would unload my harddrive on your ass.
Television Personalities and The Pastels.
they started it all.
The Tartans. The Deirdres.
I wish i still had my login for tweetracker. i forgot it :[

I was wondering when you'd be popping in here...
But yeah, listen to this man.
See his avatar? Thick rimmed glasses, a cigarette, and a cardigan. Twee as fuck. You should find the mediafire for that too. Google it. "Twee as fuck compilation." It's like the C86 tape x 12.

Re: Beat Happening
Black Candy was the first Beat Happening record I ever heard back in 1993 when I tagged along to a friends radio show on a community station. From there I was hooked on the band and K records.
Speaking of Magnetic Fields anyone see the new film "Strange Powers" yet?
