Earthquaker devices erupter fuzz help
Hi guys, I just bought a new fuzz, the erupter from earthquaker devices. The thing sounds great and really does have the fuzz sounds that I’m looking for but I’m having one major issue with it... This pedal has no volume control and earthquaker devices say this is so you can adjust the tone/fuzz sound with just the guitar and amps controls which I really liked the idea of. The problem I’m having is that as this is basically a fuzz permanently on full volume, when I play at home (which is the only place I play tbf) the increase in volume when I turn this pedal on is just way too much. I’m able to play pretty loud at hy house but this is ridiculous. I’m playing through a fender hot rod deluxe which does have quite a jump in volume at the lower volumes anyway, but to have the pedal at a manageable volume on the clean channel, I have to turn the amp down so low you can barely hear it when the pedal is disengaged. If I turn my amp to a volume that I would normally play it and engage the pedal it is just insanely loud even with my guitar volume rolled right back. The only way I can get this pedal to a manageable volume is to play through the overdrive channel but I personally don’t like the tone as much, it sounds much more muffled and I would like the option of playing through both channels. Does anyone else use this pedal through a hot rod deluxe or similar amp and have any tips on how I can manage its volume cos I really like the sound! I’m wondering if perhaps I bought the Dr Watson volume mod for my amp I may be able to dial in a volume somewhere between where it’s too quiet and too loud but that seems a bit ridiculous to need that in order to operate the pedal.

Are there trimpots inside the pedal? I read where some versions of the Erupter have trimpots which may affect output volume...
There is a character limit.

You could always put a volume pedal in between the Erupter and your amp, or a utility pedal with volume control (an EQ, or a clean booster) and lower the volume that way.

Maybe something in the effects loop would work as a limiter too.

Yeah, I think only the pedals built towards the end of the run had trimpots.
Best bet would probably be a volume pedal after the Erupter or using it in a bypass loop with something to control the volume after it.

you can get little utilities pedals which basically serve as a volume knob in the signal path. i know Saturnworks does them in tiny square boxes.

This (or many others like it) will solve the HRD non-linear pot issue - which will come into play with basically any toys you may want to use or otherwise.

I used one for ages until I just got an attenuator for the thing (actual, not the fx loop trick that these are)
