FZ7 Ibanez Fuzz Alterantives

Post by absent »

hey all, i like my ibanez FZ7, mostly the damage 100% setting. Is there a more recent pedal that is a bit more feature rich or maybe similar in some ways? my biggest issue is the footswitch isnt great and the damage switch is very small and hard to interact with. Thanks FUzz PEople :)

What's broken? The official schematic is available online, to maybe you can find a tech to repair it.
But it's a shame... these old Ibanez got into the "vintage" realm and now when you find one, these are no more as cheap as f as they used to be (but on reverb I saw now some for 80-100usd).
I was checking a video. It has a very cool broken/gate voice (and there are many options out there), but it has also a very peculiar cocky sound, like a fixed position wha.
The only thing I can thing of with such a character is a Boss Xt2... but that's not a fuzz.

That's a fun one, I wish I still had mine. It sounds sort of similar to a Super Fuzz, and I think the broken switch does something with the bias, so maybe that would be a good place to start. I have no idea what's going on with that tone knob though, it's definitely not a regular low pass.

Have no idea if anyone is making a pedal derived from this circuit but Madbean makes PCBs for DIYers that includes some mods. Looks like the damage switch has been replaced with a pot. I wanted to build this one awhile back but not letting myself buy any more PCBs as I have too many I haven't finished. You could probably find a DIY builder to build one up for you. I searched for madbean burly bear and a reverb listing came up for one but it had been sold.

Here's a link to the build document for the PCB that includes the mods and a schematic. Tone control looks interesting. Might be cool to replace those fixed resistors with pots...
