Uploaded some stuff. I had some stuff that I edited from a storm a week ago but I'm fighting pro tools so I left it out.

Re: Okta 4: community ambient project [express your interest
Many apologies but I decided to upload some more stuff, cause honestly, I half-assed it last Sunday. So spent a couple hours this morning doing new stuff.
Now there is a four, five and six. Each is, again, in c# natural minor, and each is, again, a multi-track loop with acoustic drums, bass, synths, samples and four has guitars too. And each now is labelled so you don't have to figure it out.
"But this isn't ambient music, many". I know! I just thought to try something different and give you songs parts that you can make ambient, if you so desire. If it doesn't work, no worries! There's always next year, when I can experiment with some other non-useful thing, haha.

The M4 is probably one of my favourite little instruments to just have kicking around to noodle on. It's just so simple and fun. I think it was loosely based on an dulcimer. Definitely not normally something people play with a bow, but I recently realized it's quite easy to bow due to its shape and size and it sounds pretty cool.moid wrote:I love the bowed seagull (never heard of this instrument before, just added it to my list of things I want to own!). I've added that to the track we're creating already, so thanks very much!MrNovember wrote:So I finally recorded some raw acoustic sounds for everyone, including some banjo, 12 string, bowed and plucked Seagull m4, and bowed upright bass. Sorry for being late! Also, they're pretty rough recordings, but I thought they might be fun to process.

Haha! I was just thinking about the fact I hadn't provided any sort of deadline.ognoy wrote:When is the deadline for the finished track?
Question for the group: would anyone feel like there wasn't enough time if we wanted to have the album posted for Bandcamp Friday on November 4th? That would basically mean having the last weekend in October (the 29th/30th) as crunch-time, and ideally getting stuff to me by the Monday/Tuesday so I can get everything uploaded.
(And maybe also in that week, someone might want to make a "megamix", single track version of the album? Any volunteers? I'm happy to do it as well.)
(And also also, volunteers for album art are most welcome!)

That deadline sounds realistic to me. I'm probably too busy to take on the megamix, but if things shake out so I feel less stressed towards the end of the month maybe I could do it? Let's assume not for now

Potentially I could take care of the megamix and relative master as I did two years ago, but I could be out for work in that period, so I can confirm it a couple weeks for now.
Also for the artwork, I d be happy to take care of it. Suggestions regarding subjects, colors etc are more than welcome!

Uploaded three more files into my folder for your sampling and mangling, all labelled "Strega."
Been chopping samples in the evening all week. Pretty good stuff. Found multiple samples from everyone. Now I'm renaming the files so I won't know who made what or where it came from. Not something I normally do since usually it feels better to have a track record of when/what/where in some sort of data to trace the creative process if ever I desired. But I think by removing your names I will have more freedom to assemble the sounds to fit my song rather than feeling like I'm favoring some people and leaving others out.
Also ducked up my H2n while recording samples of the saw blade. FWIW, the sample I submitted was pre-noise issue. The blade was suspended from the ceiling and the pendulum motion ended up swinging around a bit more than anticipated, made contact several times. Beginning of the session had zero noise, later on the right channel had a lot of static type of noise. While troubleshooting the noise I dropped the H2 on the carpet and the right channel noise went away... for now.

Started working on something over the weekend. Some of you guys went HARD on the sample, seems like way more than last year.

I'll be setting some time aside this weekend to work on my track, so just sharing this thought as a gentle prod to anyone else in a similar zone — we're getting close to crunch-time, folks!

Thanks for the prod, I started but have been so busy the last week or 2 and haven't had much time to work on it. Hopefully I can find some time in the next week or 2. Honestly, I'm not sure I'll make the cutoff but I'll do my best.

Re: Okta 4: community ambient project [express your interest
started working on the track a few days ago. The last time i opened Ableton was probably 8 months ago so, like everytime, i have to relearn some things, but i'm having fun.
I also just uploaded in the main shared drive folder a couple ideas for the cover made on the fly today during lunchtime. Kinda super simple stuff, just tell me if the vibe is right or if you'd rather stick with the same colors / cloud-related theme as for the last 3 iterations of the collab. No problem to made one more like that.
