thanks! kinnnnnda getting my head around it. lol. at least enough to SORT of understand what to expect. it's an interesting beast.

also, second patch with Fluxtastico -

still Prok drums, a Pixel Drum and a Surface doing a Rings impression. wanted to do a ramble with all CV and gates coming from Flux, so the Surface is using a 2 octave 4 note quantized scale, first 3 steps are random, 4th is a descending envelope.

I really haven't been using my synths at all lately and I don't know why. I guess I'm in a rut? So I've started to think about changing things up and it's kind of led to the idea of jumping back into modular. However, this would mean selling the Matriarch and Digitakt. I really love both instruments, but neither of them have really been inspiring me lately.

One major caveat to getting back into modular is that I need to avoid the same pitfalls I fell into last time, which essentially means not spending more time on modulargrid than I do playing music. I think this should be pretty easy to do by sticking to a strict plan. So far, this is my plan; I would be mainly playing with ambient music and drones. Top row is essentially a synth voice and bottom row is samples and effects. I also have a Keystep Pro and 16n to control everything.

But, I'm also tempted by the Doepfer A-111-4 (which would also probable mean swapping out a few other modules too). Also, not sure what case I'd go for. I'd like to stick to 6U, 84hp or possibly 7U, 84hp. Does Intellijel still make an 7U, 84hp case?

I'm going to keep thinking on this and give the Matriarch and Digitakt a little love this weekend.

That planned case looks really good Mr November, but is it... Matriarch + Digitakt good? :idk:

Either way hope you find a way to be inspired with what you got or find something that works.

Personally I have not been playing synths much recently either and it sucks. I just don't have the enthusiasm for music-ing to sit down and turn on the synth for a while when I could just pick up a guitar and noodle away for ten minutes... :(

Yeah, that's what I'm not entirely sure about. I would be getting very different sounds out of that case than I could with the Digitakt and Matriarch. Honestly, the only thing I can really nail down that I would miss is the ability to play back multiple samples at once on the Digitakt and the full keyboard and "Moog sound" from the Matriarch.

Also, that's what I've mainly been doing lately. Just sitting down with a guitar rather than turning everything on to play synths. Which isn't really a problem, it's still tons of fun, but it makes me wonder if I need all the synths I have

I am having similar thoughts

I am treating them as the result of tiredness and stress rather than genuine lack of love for my synths so I am not making any big gear decisions on this basis any time too soon. :idk:

Although my digitakt is going nowhere. Love that thing.

I feel like I have all these fantastic ideas of things to try, but I struggle to put the effort in to actually try them. I’ve been trying to force myself to play a bit. It sucks at first, but then gets enjoyable. Until the next day and I still feel the struggle to get through that wall of even turning the thing on. Pandemic times are stressful and tiring.

somebody wrote an article about the Six Month Wall of long term projects. she talked about how she realized after a few projects that at 6 months, she got into can't get out of bed levels of apathy. and since it wss inevitable, she just planned for it. planned a couple days that she just needed to take a break to be able to push through.

and then went on about it's relevance to the current pandemic situation for most people.

tl;dr - FEEL you dog. it's just... how it is right now. YOU GOT THIS.

Hey, Behnders, whatever happened to this thing? I miss it.

(edit: having said that I basically built my skiff to replace it and, uh, it does that in spades  I just miss having it in an even tinier box).
