redid my yarea. super comfy right now. trying to sort the ES-9 as the only interface and sending clock to Pam's. get mah Proooooks in tomorrow. i have a pre-order for an ER-M Multiclock, but dunno when that will ship. i hear great things about using it as the master clock.
i'm confused now though. the empty row in the synth stands wasssss for a Resonant Garden on order, but i could fit it in front of the 6u rack if i find something i want in that spot.
OPTIONS.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
also also, as awesome as thr ES-9 is turning out to be (with a properly setup FaderDox EC4 WHICH I MIGHT HAVE HEADED TOWARDS ME) it's going be exactly how i used the AR16c mixer i was using in about a twentieth the desk space. even using the sliders in the web app with a mouse isn't that bad.
onllllly thing that's a little frustrating (beyond my lack of knowledge with it and having to ask setup questions in threads) is that on Windows you have to uninstall the audio drivers for it to do a firmware upgrade. not HORRIBLE, but as he's ironing out this functionality there's a fair amount of revisions to the beta.
on the other hand, there was a glitch happening for me, i asked about it, he tested it and posted a revised firmware that fixed it in like.... 6 hours? that's AMAZING.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but....
What are you all using for drums?
I patched my first kick and snare from scratch recently and discovered that I would need a giant rig to do a full kit drums from scratch.
I think I want to go modular drums to pair with my Pam's for triggers. Unless there's a outboard option that has trigger inputs for each sound?
I have a Peaks that can do basic kick and snare. I've been experimenting with that. Makes jamming/experimenting/learning with other modules more fun and interesting.
Modular drums appear to be pretty expensive overall. :-(
The Endorphin.es BLCK NOIR looks really nice for an all in one. Cheaper than separate modules.
Maybe lacks in custom sound shaping.
WMD drum modules sound awesome, especially for kick.
Pico Drums are a little cheaper than Mutant.
Or maybe a sampler instead?
Thoughts?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I love drum modules.
For an inexpensive solution, check out ADDAC's T-Networks and T-Noiseworks. That gives you a ton of drums for not much money. I have not used the T-Noiseworks personallly, but the T-Networks sounds great if you're into analog drum sounds.
More expensive but more expressive, I always recommend ALM Dinky's Taiko as a versatile drum module. It makes fantastic kicks.
TipTop One is an inexpensive sample player I always use for drums but you can use it for whatever.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
I use ableton live for drums. but mostly I don't use drums. fuck drums. when I hear a car driving by with the muffler scraping the pavement I think
I'm over western music. I want noise theater. a conversation of machine like objects arranged in ways that evoke strong emotions, memories, or objections. the consonant sounds are the silences before and after the performance. this is an old concept I learned from my jazz history professor. it was very far ahead in 1960. If I didn't spend so much time listening to music my whole life I might be interested in traditional forms like everyone else.
being a music teacher is like being the man behind the curtain. you see how the sausage is made. you never want to eat it again. well actually I like sausage but I don't like techno anymore.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
maybe try more leftfield or complex electronic stuff than 4 on the floor techno? which, i feel you. not my jam. but fuck drums? NEVER. although Ableton is wonderful for drum loots.eatyourguitar wrote:being a music teacher is like being the man behind the curtain. you see how the sausage is made. you never want to eat it again. well actually I like sausage but I don't like techno anymore.
most of my favorite musicians can do tracks where it's 90% drums, just sparse melodies or minimal bass and i. am. THERE.
for drum modules - grain of salt and all, because i just got them in my system, but the Proks have been super fun. and pretty tiny. if you go to the effort of finagling the USB ports in the back to be always accessible, there's a ton of depth to be had by running the software live with them.
for WMD i loooove Crater, and Crucible tackles modeling cymbals, which i don't think any other module tries?

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
you could argue that every cymbal module models cymbals. plog can probably do it. I know shapeshifter can do it. for a long time the liquid hihat was the DIY project people would build. there were modified versions with 9 knobs 3 switches. they could get nasty infinite drones out of the hihat module. there are low end and high end digital modules for hihat simulation. the idea basically involves noise FM into a sine wave.behndy wrote:maybe try more leftfield or complex electronic stuff than 4 on the floor techno? which, i feel you. not my jam. but fuck drums? Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
ooooo! that's surprisingly good. my ERM Multiclock is on the way, should be here Monday or Tuesday. NEAT.
annnnd the Digitakt is neat, but. they just announced black Analog Rtm mk 2's will be shipping soon. i have no analog drums. i have always wanted a Rytm. i think i am going to sell the Takt to partially fund the Rytm. if anyone's looking for one, hit me up. Breaux Discount and all.

Re: Can we talk about modular synths?
lol. while those are all neat in their own way, none appeal to me. i love the Elektron sequencer and dig their gear a lot.
thereeeeee's a bit of Nostalgia Lust for me too. i scraped and hustled as a broke kid and finalllllllly had enough to buy a MachineDrum after lusting for one for like 2 years. found a too good of a deal on one, got scammed for 8 hundy or so. which, while it was my fault for being ignorant and too eager.... ugh. it would hurt now to get ripped off for that much, but then? killed me. scraped another year, bought a used one right and... could never get my head around using it very well.
Elektron's sequencers are less obscure now and i understand them betrer, so there's always been a bit of Nostalgic Lust and I Must Climb That MOUNTAIN in MachindDrum 3/Rytm 2's for me. and having it in black pushes alllllll my buttons.
