How heavy was the Aristocrat...how resonant compared to say...a Wildkat?

Shot my load early (no thanks too you fuzz loving bastards) took a lunch at the job today and put that down deposit on a 2011 fender jazz bass that I have been lusting over. Fucking rad bass, it has some soul and will be my first real fender so I am excited to start spanking that bitch.

Also picked up a pedal train enzo ( I think) - slapped the Velcro and put together really quick before the baby went to bed.

I am just so happy I am playing again. It feels different and good so when I buy stuff now I get excited

lighter and smaller than a Duo Jet, much more alive than a Kat...the Kats always seemed like a great idea that had been made of that exotic molecular-isotope-weight mahogany that plagued certain years of Les Paul and probably has a half-life measured in tens of thousands of years, smothered in cheap polyester clear coat. mine literally didn't seem to resonate at all. the Aristocrat was like touching a live animal. it nestled into my ribs while i noodled some abstract hippie shit and sounded great without being plugged in. it had The Vibe. it was like "daddy, plug me in."

example Guild (this one is new factory sunburst; the one i played was all natural and has likely been stripped; its lightly applied (assumedly lacquer) finish was, well, soft and comfortable, with that matte feel of guitars you find of a certain age. general feel was well played in but not played out. finish wear and patina on the gold Grovers.

Really curious about the Aristocrat, I have a soft spot for Guild in general and the Duo Jet remains the #1 guitar on my "maybe someday" list, so it has all the cards to be right up my alley.

FIVE. HUNDRED. GUITARS. to reiterate, i literally could not process it all. and no teenaged shredders, just some Black guys in the keyboard room singing that Stevie Wonder song about Jesus People in lovely/funky harmony. if it wasn't heaven, it's the nicest rendition of Purgatory i've ever seen.

wait, just focusing on this - so are we maybe talking about a vintage 'crat? cuz they did come in a natural finish, and a vintage one could have that lightly applied matte feel. Those things should be in the $2-4k range pricewise...might be time for a return trip....

no, it's definitely a modern reissue. you can tell by the Tunomatic on posts, the nice shiny plastic on the pickup covers, and, erm, the "Made In Korea" on the headstock it's in that odd sort of refinished state that i saw in a Wildkat there as well, with the original finish gone and some kind of light spray, conceivably nitro, as its current finish. i'm sure that with the amount of kit going through there they know the value of things quite well.

going to hang with the Ric for a little while longer today, but i'm pretty sure it's going to go. it's a wonderful instrument, but it just doesn't sound like me. if i don't care for a guitar's bridge pickup it's fatal because i spend 70% of my time there, and i never warmed to the 360's treble pickup. i'm not cutting loose of it unless i'm sure what i get back is going to give me a higher level of actual use and happiness, though.

i made up my mind about the 360, and i'm going up to Atomic today to see if the Guild and i get along when we're plugged in. i spent an hour with the Rickenbacker yesterday, all the pickup positions, reverb, fuzz, chorus...it sounds beautiful and i can hear things in there that should work for what i want to do, but they're not natural to the way i play, and i'm the type of player who likes multiple guitars because they make me play differently. it's just too precise for me, and there's something a bit ploinky about it despite its sustain, a weirdness in the attack. i tend to get along better with twangier guitars due to my youthful obsession with Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and Jerry Garcia in that order. at some point the inner Cosmic Cowboy asserts himself. so we'll see how that goes. i haven't bought a new(ish) guitar from a real live 3D shop since the Wildkat which was in the early 00s. wish me luck!
