Re: 2020 Happenings! (BOSS Strikes Back)
I like the idea of an affordable mf 104, but $350? I feel like this pedal is 10 years too late to the game to possibly justify that. Im not really seeing any reason why someone wouldn't just grab a CBA Tonal Recall if they wanted to drop boocoo bucks on a delay.
Alternatively, the Xvive delay uses the same chips, and Rubberneck is still less than 2 bills new

Thanks for posting that demo!
I agree though, $400 seems a bit much for that guy even though it does sounds pretty good.
To go off on a little bit of an old guy rant here...it seems like pedals over the last 5 or so years have started to become more and more expensive and I think its finally to a point, for me at least, that I don't think its really worth it anymore. Granted they're sounding better and with more features etc. Its just hard to justify spending that much on a delay that as pointed out, can probably get a lot of the same type sounds with a Rubberneck. Idk, I admittedly don't know a ton about the details of these things and didn't read the specs of this pedal but 4 bills kinda kills any gas I might have had. I thought the chase bliss guys were gonna be the most expensive pedals I'd get down with but the last 2 have been a hard pass because I'd rather spend that kinda money on something more significant. Again I think its the old guy creepin out of me that makes me think this kinda stuff. Plus having a big collection of chase bliss pedals has me feeling some regret because I rarely play them and I'm not really wanting to get rid of them because I got a lot of them etched and now feel some kinda sentimental feels for them.

Gotta remember it's a two man operation making a really nice sounding BBD delay. I don't think the price is bad at all when you compare it to something like DOD, which was basically a corporate thing when the rubberneck came out. Could obviously be cheaper, but I don't think it's an awful price and the batches are probably small enough for them to sell anyways. All that being said, I've got a Rubberneck and I'm not in the market for one of these either, and I'd personally probably opt for an In Limbo over it,partly because I'm more into that layout, design and functionality, but also because ILF tribalism.

Re: 2020 Happenings! (BOSS Strikes Back)
I agree with the increase in cost. I think that the rise of computer pedals plus the fascination with out of production parts from rocks golden age has driven costs up. But I do think its really a bubble that will pop soon. Demand is really high right now because the last generation of rockers is stable enough to through money at their hobbies, and the spread of home recording means that anyone could sound good, but those folks don't have access to every piece of studio gear so they go for boutique pedals which fill the gap between traditional 3 knob stomp boxes and thousand dollar rack equipment.
But i do think prices will go down because computer stuff is so cheap these days and will continue fetting cheaper. I know something like a Source Audio nemesis will only sound 95% of the way to mn3005 Deluxe Memory Man, but I don't care because 98% of music my generation cares about is computer based in the first place. So when a song is 2% guitar, that last 5% of the authentic DMM sound just doesn't matter. Especially because Millennials and Gen Z'ers have lived through 2 masive depressions so dropping stacks on authentic gear just isnt feasible or something we care too much about.
While I know that there's always going to be exceptions to the rules, i think in the near future, there will be a whole lot more supply on the used market than demand. Even in the short term, once people start going back to work and going out again, i expect that a lot of gear people bought with their pandemic checks will plummet in value.
Its just hard to imagine the market staying like this when the people my age are most interested in digital samplers and 808s than klons.

I was thinking about the in limbo while watching this so its funny you mention that. I don't really see it being as versatile as it but I didn't watch the video all the way through.... I also see yr point about it being a 2 man operation and its obviously in the range of the market for that kinda pedal these days. I wasn't really trying to single this pedal out, I think that 900 chase bliss pedal really just changed the way I look at pedals now days.UglyCasanova wrote:Gotta remember it's a two man operation making a really nice sounding BBD delay. ILF tribalism 4eva. Speaking of which, if Johnny makes more In Limbos, get one of them from his one man shop instead.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to prove you wrong or anything, as I think your points are valid. Just bored and sleepless and adding to the discussion.cantremember wrote: I was thinking about the in limbo while watching this so its funny you mention that. I didn't think that at all. I appreciate your opinion on this kinda stuff because I dont really know how much time/development goes into building something like this.

Re: 2020 Happenings! (BOSS Strikes Back)
Whether it's really called for in this type of circuit, it seems clear from the marketing spiel that the potential buyer is expected to believe that at every juncture no expense was spared/only the finest, most expensive parts possible were chosen, all by a certifiable genius...which, depending on your perspective is either woohoo mojo excites or wtf why did i need this. Or somewhere in-between if you like that more. There's lots of choice these days, but also a lot of groupthink push towards the goldplated solution and a saturated market in which sellers feel pressure to differentiate themselves. And, perhaps not inexplicably in a through-connected world where everyone can research out the very best thing they can possibly afford whether it's kicks or cans or cars or pedlols, there is an observable Veblen effect in the pedal market. I don't blame anyone for being frustrated. Gear tribalism is the only solution. Neal Stephenson predicted it, lol.

I agree with most of the things said in the last page, but you are all missing a point: THE LOOKS.
With all the respect for the designer and for the apparently incredible sounding circuit, It has one of the worst artworks I have ever seen.
It looks like the sheet music workbooks for kids I had when I was 7 or 8 years old.
Seriously nobody else dislikes it?
You come from one of the best looking pedals in history and then you do.. This.

Exactly. I'm sure there's a market for $350 delays pedals that don't necassarily blow away the alternatives from Red Panda or Chase Bliss,...Dowi wrote:I agree with most of the things said in the last page, but you are all missing a point: THE LOOKS.
