If it's the chip, I'm socketing that fucker if I have to pull it. LOL. Hopefully it's not one that's hard to come by. I also have some chips and sockets on hand.
So if I wanted to try something else, where's a good place to start?
It's a common cd4046 pll chip. Parasit uses them all the time. He usually sockets chips but not always. I think he does it if he intends to swap and find the right one (ESP in the case of pt2399 chips and opamps). I know he pushes them hard and have replaced some (and there are a lot of bootleg chips floating around that end up in that part of the world via mailorder).
I'd replace the switches first though...most likely that is the problem (I had a bad batch of switches sent to me recently...some poles worked, some didn't).
Kompakt Kassette or memory loss/eccodrone might be good. But with active bass they might not work well (I have to ride the volume on my semi high output guitar for best results and run them first).
I would probably try looking for a DPM, fuzz Overloader, or the b-filter. Actually, b-filter can do a ton...b-filter or Hysteresis.
Strange Tales wrote:Got my Hysteresis in yesterday and hot damn. Are all ring mods like this? I might have to get on the ring mod game if so. Pedal is so awesome on everything.
Ring Mods are kinda like it in some ways, but it is Frequency Modulation. It sounds a lot like the Jen/Grestch Playboy HF Modulator. Holowan makes the thermal wave which is similar to the Hysteresis but has and envelope controlled decay that snaps up like a slow gate. The Hysteresis has two lfos running though which is different. I would kinda look at it as more of a different take on Analog srr and bit crush though...
Ring Modulation is the sum and difference frequencies of input and carrier signals that can be used to do a lot of different things (including some overlap with Hysteresis).
Ring mod is a specific form of amplititude modulation. FM changes the frequency instead of the amplitude (volume). But the Hysteresis can do amplitude modulation (trem) too. I think what it does is kinda does a fast trem to modulate the signal (ring mod like...playing a trick on the ear but still keeping the pitch related to the original signal and then it modulates that...like a trem made with a pll chip...the holowan does this with envelope and the Hysteresis with lfo).
Basically the carrier wave and Modulator wave to do not change shape based on difference like in ring mod....the frequency of modulation changes at audio speeds. A true frequency shifter (which none of these pedals are) will change the incoming signal via phase (to cut out the unwanted modulation and only have the shifted wave...not many out there though).

Ring mod(way better examples in the ring mod thread...lots of modular ones too).

At least I think.
@Pladask - If the above discourse intrigues you, I can send you some gut shots as I have the hysteresis. Professor Soy Boy here.

Pedal frequency shifters:
Alexander Syntax Error
EHX Ring Thing
(Thought there was a third one, but can't remember)
Audio Damage had a prototype based off their eurorack module
Easy to used with guitar signal:
20/20 systems frequency shifter
J Haible Frequency Shifter
Bode
(I want to say electrix or someone made one)
Buchla 185 (Two ring mods, two fixed phase shifters, and a mixer in a sandwich. Odd one because it uses transistors do make a bipolar vca setup as far as I can tell)
Buchla 285e (the buchlas run at around live level instead of eurorack levels/analog shift, digital carrier).
Yes! 100 pages of Balanced Amplitude Modulation!

Forgot the field kit/fx.
Yes, the audio Damage one is fun.
There is also that old digital one by synth tech (or blacet...should deflector I think) in fracrac and maybe euro or 5U. The bode one in eurorack that doesn't use doepfer standards. The new synth tech effects module has one. There was also a doepfer one for a short while.
There are some random buchla format stuff made with fv-1 by Roman black Corp guy (285 clone and this other multifx thing). I think he did a full analog 285 too.
Drolo might have some patches for the m.disruptor.

Doepfer has a new freq shifter in the works, but it seems like it will just be a stripped down version of the og, because DD likes to make sure nothing is redundant that way ya gotta buy them all :/
e520? that's a lot of HP. Hopefully it's a little more powerful than a pair of FV-1s....

Yea e520. That guy...it does a ton, but yea, that hp cost. It has tons of carrier options built in and all that stuff and sound great in demos. There is other stuff like percussa that probably has one too.
If someone does build a freq shift pedal, my request would be to have the high, low, and direct (not shifted) outputs all available all the time. It gives lots of stereo imaging options. Or at least a stereo out with hi/low/direct selectable for each one or some kind of stereo locator.
The carrier input isn't as important as the output, especially if the carrier is like a digital wavetable or sine with shapers. Wide frequency range is important (like the mf-102).
Sputnik/Roman had licenced the JHaible design for eurorack, but I think that was before Random.Source bought all the Haible designs (like synthcube did with MFOS). Roman sold Sputnik and it's all become lost with time. Dark Place was his contact builder though. He sold all the buchla code and designs for his 200 series clones to Analogue Haven/Scott I heard.

Just was I was busy looking up stupid stuff I don't need... this comes along and perhaps... zags me. Classic Zag. I may have to take one for the team.

Zagged to the bone... I can live with paying this price for this. Deal of the day + Open Box Promo + Some other imaginary promo? Final price was $109.77.
Special thanks to Gone Fission for enlightening me on these deals.
Dandolin and I just have to wait for the resotron to get that low now.

Noice! Enjoy the cv out to another filter in the meantime!
also, dat's some nice sounding srr, Chank
