Monobius is a perfect example of a ring mod that has carrier bleed in some settings but the decay is so glorious it becomes part of the experience.

Also while we're talking about it.. I'll just throw it out there that a ring mod with a tracking carrier just seems like a really inefficient pitch shifter. That being said I'll probably still buy a ring thing sooner or later

I think part of the charm, to me, of the tracking ringmod is that inefficiency. A lot of these digishifters get into the uncanny valley for me - I'd just as soon they not get so close to the real thing since they ultimately fail at sounding real. The laggy tracking ringmod though, with it's synthy hard sync tone, is like having drunk Jan Hammer mockingly aping your playing - what could be more charming?

As for Monobius, I should be buying one of those

Got the Ringworm reissue today. The purple looks great. Sound wise I dig it, maybe not as warm as the Frequency Analyzer but the LFO is pretty cool. I think I'll probably dig it more on synth than anything else. Also need to mess around putting in the loop of the DD-500 I think that could be cool.

Broughton Audio dropped a surprise Halloween small batch this morning bit crusher (or so it sounds like) that goes from Ring Mod to “NES cover band” [sic]. There was no way I wasn’t going to snag one.

Seattle Seahawks or Boise State.

I'd believe either.

I'd believe Colorado (Toxic) Rockies or Minnesota Slime Vikings too.

@ 36:49 - using 4 quad multiplier to create even harmonics from a sine.

31:50 until the end has lots of fun AM stuff. Good visuals of 2 quadrant vs 4 quadrant multiplication and stuff.

Different thing:

From LA67 Buchla 185 frequency shifter BOM:

111: transistor based dual ring mod
196: fixed phase shifter
185: dual mixer
From LA67 Buchla 196 phase shifter BOM:
Calibration

(The following is paraphrased from the Bode 1630 service manual):

"Set the variable resistors for 90º phase shift at the frequency corresponding to that pair of stages [...] and adjust for 90º phase shift by displaying the two board outputs on X and Y axes [of your oscilloscope] and adjusting for [a] perfectly round circle."

The schematic suggests 10hz, 100hz, 1khz, and 5khz as the "frequencies corresponding to each stage". The idea is to keep the circle as round as possible throughout the entire frequency range.
