Monobius is a perfect example of a ring mod that has carrier bleed in some settings but the decay is so glorious it becomes part of the experience.
Also while we're talking about it.. I'll just throw it out there that a ring mod with a tracking carrier just seems like a really inefficient pitch shifter. That being said I'll probably still buy a ring thing sooner or later

From LA67 Buchla 196 phase shifter BOM:111: transistor based dual ring mod
196: fixed phase shifter
185: dual mixer
Calibration
(The following is paraphrased from the Bode 1630 service manual):
"Set the variable resistors for 90º phase shift at the frequency corresponding to that pair of stages [...] and adjust for 90º phase shift by displaying the two board outputs on X and Y axes [of your oscilloscope] and adjusting for [a] perfectly round circle."
The schematic suggests 10hz, 100hz, 1khz, and 5khz as the "frequencies corresponding to each stage". The idea is to keep the circle as round as possible throughout the entire frequency range.
