(Favourite) Songs (suitable) for kids

Postby PanicProne » Tue Sep 17, 2019 5:53 am

Edit: Maybe this should've been posted in the Music-section of the forum. Damnit! :idk: :picard:

Long story short I'm studying to become a music teacher/teacher in extended education. Basically, here in Sweden that means focusing on ages 6-10. The past two and upcoming three weeks I'm doing workplace training. Had my first "proper" lesson with a bunch of 8yr olds last week and loved it. It went super well. My teacher from Uni was there to observe and gave me a lot of praise, my tutor at the school I'm doing my training (who is insanely good btw!) was very happy with my "performance" too.

Anyways, currently I'm trying to compile a list of good/cool/fun songs for kids. Simple hello- and/or greeting-songs as well as goodbye-songs are invaluable, and you can never know too many I guess. For my next lesson I want to mix english in with the music. I've been looking around the web for good songs, but they are either horrible or way too simple/uninspiring for the kids I work with. So basically, I thought I'd ask around:

What is/was you favourite songs for/as a kid(s)? Preferably in English but I like bringing in songs in all kinds of languages when I teach, so anything goes, as long as it's fairly simple. Any tips and/or ideas? Cool melodies, tongue twisters, funny lyrics, smart/important lyrics? Fire away!

i remember the pathetic excuse for musical education i had up to age 11 was mainly nursery rhymes, christmas carols and the beatles. maybe there were more hymns than i can remember (at a church school, you get pretty numb to songs about jesus)

maybe you can exploit stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy's soundtrack to at least see what music they might be aware of through other stuff?

Hehe.
I have a few microraptors in that age group at home.

They'll sing pretty much anything, but here are a few tunes that they have been jamming lately.

The song from Taurus Labyrint.
Kiss - I was made for lovin you
Twisted Sister - I wanna rock
GnR - Paradise CIty
Aviici - whatever that new single is about "I don't need my drugs"
Walk of the Earth - pretty much everything. Gang of Rhythm maybe.
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
DJ Marshmello - Alone

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but the Okie Dokie Brothers get a lot of play in my household for kids that age. A lot of their songs are kind of classic story telling.

Caspar Babypants is the current project by Chris Ballew from the Presidents of the United States of America. Sometimes he does cool stuff like this:

Excellent suggestions so far guys! Keep them coming!

I'm deffo gonna try out that Caspar Babypants song (or at least steal the concept and mod the lyrics a bit) before the week is done.
