Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
Our weird ridged driveway ripped the wheel well liner a little ways off of my car, then I drove like 20 feet before noticing the dragging noise, got out, decided (in the rain) that it was fucked and stomped it off. Now it's in my back seat. Or where there used to be a back seat.
But more importantly, the front quarter panel is now flappin' in the breeze because that action also sheared off the bolts that were pinning it to the underside of the car. Fffffffffffff...
Zip ties it is...

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
I'm getting new wheels for my MKVI GTI because the original ones are fucked after 9 years and I also want to size down for comfort. Which would y'all go with for a black car w/no window tints? I kinda dig the bronze rse16's, and they'd be a little stronger than the rse05's, but gunmetal or silver rse05's might match the car a little better. Neither of those need hub rings, either. Buuut I could also cheap out and go Konig Rennforms or Motegi Tracklites.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
Tire Rack claims I'll have fitment issues with the Traklites, which shouldn't be true from what I'm reading on VW forums, but idk.
I really wish I had an actual garage space to work on cars. It's something I've wanted to get into, but it's tough when you're in an apartment in a city, y'know? My apartment complex yells at people for changing their oil. I've been doing little things like replacing a broken tail light, changing coil packs & spark plugs, and I somehow find those little jobs really satisfying.

I'm about to transplant my 12V Cummins into a new truck.. I'll take some pics as it gets going... original truck got totalled but the engine runs great and the 12V are getting hard to find.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
Looking at the tracklites, it looks like their maybe some potential issue with the front tires offset. All of that is dependent on which tire and where your suspension sits. Most likely they are just warning you that the offset is slightly different. If other people report that they work, they probably will, but they may rub and need fender rolling or something.
V8 update: dual plane air gap style intake is in. 347 stroker short block next. MSD now makes a coil near plug setup that deletes the distributor for the SBF, so that will be cool and trick. I'm going for what my wife wants which is no fuss, just drive. Learning EFI and self adjusting timing is in the plan.
Kind of sucks that all the stuff I think is cool is out the window.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
It has taken me months of working on it for an hour or two here and there, but I've finally got my miata running and on the road again. Turned out my coolant leak was coming from the heater core hose at the back of the engine block - crank angle sensor o ring was dripping oil on the hose and it blew out. I changed the timing belt, water pump and a bunch of other gaskets too since I didn't know when that was last done.
I've only taken it for a short test drive so far, but seems to be running great.
Next minor project planned is removing the passenger airbag and seeing if my 2 year old daughter likes riding in it as much as she likes playing in it stationary.

Re: The Automotive (& other mechanized vehicles) thread
So I'm digging the cylinder head out of a purple (here's looking at you, Chank) PT Cruiser.
I'm doing it with AC lines intact.
I expect a shitshow of a project. I'm down to the lower motor mount/timing case cover and have called it a day.
Someone is selling a project 1977 Lotus Eclat in my area. Less than $3K. I have enough projects, but that's a special viscosity of drool.
