i went through a similar internal discussion about the 6u rack i have coming in. was looking at it as yesh a complimentary box of goodness for everything else, but also an enclosed ecosystem, for perhaps bringing out by itself sometime.

was very close to grabbing another Pam's New Hawtness, because LOVE, but have never tried a Tempi. so. went with that. even though it's less verbose and a touch bigger. looks like an AWESOMELY fun way to play with tempo clicks.

murf. i miss the Trigger Riot, but fuck me. it is so damn BIG. and it always annoyed me that both the ones i had the panels were slightly..... shittily cut.

Yah, Tempi seems to be the Other Choice when thinking about Pam's. The thing with Tempi is the button combos are like Mortal Kombat Fatality combos... too much for me and my ape-brain or, less generously, vegetable brain.

That said, I hope it works for you.

I have already sung the praises of Trigger Riot many times here and will refrain from tooting its horn again. Mine does not have a shitty panel (1st edition silver panel).

Only 200$ per knob.

EDIT: Sorry for being flip. I have never understood Arc. Yes, it is a beautiful design object but are the four knobs and the stick they're glued on worth 800$? I can't say. For me, the answer is a HARD NO. If I were worried about how my gear looked in photos I'd probably want one, though.

I feel you man. I have a grid and it is incredibly powerful and I love using it, but it's significantly cheaper than Arc, and probably more useful. Just a total sucker for that future-aesthetic tho.

Arc - i grabbed one of thems, a Grid, and Norns. Norns is supposed to support Arc SOON, and that will be awesome. Grids is super fun, even with how little i've used. looks well worth the price for all it can do. if you're just using Arcs with euro loot? dunno. seems super limited. it's an okay sequencer with a LOT of very specific UI learnings with Ansible, or a very fun super interactive quad LFO. but. still just 4 LFOs. if you want to integrate it with Live there are loaaaads of neat looking Max apps. so. dunno?

it IS super pretty on the desk though. PAY FOR THEM AESTHETICS BEBE.

Triggy Riots - yah. love it, but hate it? i always feel like i'm fighting it to get something i WANT out of it, instead of letting it just go it's own way into Woot How Why What LOVE IT country? by panel i meant both i had, one side was slighhhhhtly cut at an angle. so there was always a little slice of UGLY gap, wouldn't sit flush with other modules.

I mean, I covet the Monome lifestyle as much as anyone (minimal, refined, clean, socially conscious, aesthetically pleasing, etc.) but can't justify spending money on their controllers. I'm probably missing the point which is all the rad software people have developed to make use of the controllers. But I don't use a computer during music time. But Norns isn't a computer. But don't you need to know how to do a bunch of math and programming to use it? I don't know. I think so.

***

Trigger Riot is bae. I think it's probably possible to program any beat into the thing but I usually only program very simple things and let probability functions take care of the rest.

Mine sits flush with the other junk although if it didn't I'd always look at it like "why you like dis?"

Y’all are gonna wanna try the Metron. It’s beastly for sure, but it’s super easy to use and a bunch of cool features like probability and ratcheting. More to come too. I’ve never had so much control over rhythm. It is some gooooooooood shit.

I've REALLY wanted to dive into Monome since I started this modular journey but every time I go to read about it or watch videos my brain hurts...... I think I would need to attend a 3 week seminar on how to use it, that's what it feels like anyways. Does not seem intuitive or easy. I like immediacy and I don't think Monome is that? I don't know.... I want it but feel like I'll never get around to learning it.

I would agree that the MK2 and MK3 Hertz Donuts are different things. The 3 only has sine waves, but I think can do all three wavefolding algorithms at once. I haven’t really gotten too into the presets, but that’s actually something I’m planning on exploring this weekend. I’ve tried itnwoth the preloaded presets and some of the inbetween sounds are so interesting. It’s basically like having a Batumi and Blinds built in. So that will take more planning. It’s pretty accessible without that, though. The 3rd operator and external input mean you can have 4 op FM. So in the end, I think they’re both different and it would probably depend on what you want. It’s not really the direct update the PH3 is. (Speaking of, I’m getting a PH3 in next week!)

pfffffft. get YOU there gurrrrrrrrL.

yah. i love the Manis, but it can get pretty same'y. i like the Mangrove a LOT, but more in the architecture of a Just Friends/Manny/3 Sissie combo.

spent some time with the Atlantis last night. OOF. LOT of sounds. so good with the Metro. if Intellijel had a good clocking module i would totes try to jam All The Intellijels into one case.
