If it were me, I'd get a PS4.
1. Are you looking to play games online with your friends? If so, get what they have.
2. Do you have a decent TV or monitor already? If you do, PS4.
3. Can you get the games you want on PS4? If you can, PS4.
I like a dedicated console because it doesn't require much care and feeding. Every Windows machine I've ever owned has required some degree of system administration, and that's the last thing I want to deal with when I sit down to play a game. You do pay more for games than you would on Steam, but the PS4 hardware is cheaper than a PC worth gaming on. And if you switch from Mac to PC, factor in any software you'd need to buy for Windows that you already have on Mac. New MacBook Pros are pricey, but for web, writing, and spreadsheets a refurb MacBook or Air would do the job for not too much money.
