Anybody quantified or measured the Fine Tuning parameters via MIDI CC? Documents say range is +/- 100 cents but there are only decimal values 0 through 127 available. Supposing a CC value of 64 would equal "0" or exact pitch, CC value 0 is -100 cents and CC value 127 is +100, what are the increments between these? Roughly 2 cents?

According to my measurements using a Peterson VSII digital strobe tuner and an A 440Hz sine wave, it appears that the "Fine Tune" parameters allow -55 cents to +46.5 cents adjustment (not -100 to +100 cents) in 16 fairly coarse steps as below:
Midi Value Cents
000 002 -55
003 011 -48
012 020 -41
021 028 -34.5
029 037 -27.5
038 046 -20.5
047 055 -13.5
056 062 -06.5
063 071 0
072 080 +06.5
081 088 +13.5
089 096 +20.3
097 104 +26.7
105 113 +33.5
114 120 +40.2
121 127 +46.5
The parts after the decimal points are just an approximation as the strobe tuner didn't have that resolution.

Ugh, feel like I'm spamming the board a bit, but I just want to cross-post my new album to this thread as the 856 ended up being a key compositional tool, so I just wanted to share it here it case it inspires anyone else's workflow (or sparks anyone to share What They Did back) or gives some idea of what this can be as a tool for ambient sounds.

https://heraclitusakimbo.bandcamp.com/a ... ional-park

The basic process was just recording improvisations and whittling them down after the fact, but the 856 was essential to two of the album's long tracks (#1 + #3), and both times it just came totally by accident, just by catching an interesting sound and playing with that. The "voice" sound in the first track (first comes in at 1:53) is just a part of the synth loop caught in the 856, and then a couple minutes later, a pitch change makes it sound more like a guitar note. That ended up adding a whole layer on top of what I'd being doing that was really interesting.

In track #3, I was at the end of a long noodling session that I thought was running out of steam, so I grabbed a loop on the 856 on a lark, and that ended up being the start of what was the "keeper" portion of the track (it's the little shunk-ing noise that comes in around 1:25). It sounded a bit like a heart monitor (which was on point for the story I wanted to tell in the track) and with manipulation became a bunch of other semi-rhythmic sounds throughout.

Anyway, maybe this is a little different from what other people are doing with the pedal, so I thought someone might find it interesting to unpack it a little here.

Thanks for sharing!

Feel free to post any music/clips related to mtl.asm gear you want, even if it is your own band/ you feel like you're spamming etc.

Yes teh manual should just say +/- 50 cents, not 100.

The resolution is quantized for some reason but it has already been fixed for the next update which should be available in the next few weeks.

This is by far the nerdiest thing I've seen on ILF in a hot minute. I thank you sir. I was starting to lose faith. :animal: :!!!:

Sound great...how do you erase a loop...are the recorded loops erased when powered down?
Best,
John

When you record a new loop, the old one is erased.

the recording is erased when you power down.
