Question about the Sunn Beta 402 cab

Post by Sonaboy »

Found a clean and fairly priced 402 4x12 cab locally and was wondering what the actual speakers inside are. Guy selling is older and doesn't feel like pulling it apart to look. But he says he's original owner and hasn't changed out any speakers.

I guess I'm not that great at teh Googlez and can't find anything about it. Someone on here has owned one in the past, I'm sure. Just wondering if they ever had a look inside.

Help?

I had a 2x12 from that era with the square magnet sunn speakers. They kinda sucked to be honest.

In what way? Too flubby? Too stiff? Harsh?

They were shrill and not efficient. Also I blew them which has never happened before in my life, but that's mostly my fault.

If they're the silver dustcap ones, I'm fond of them (they remind me a bit of the old Roland Jazz Chorus speakers).

It won't have modern efficiency, but will produce the volume if there's nothing amiss.
