Punisher is a (finally) decent treatment of source material for a difficult character. But Daredevil is far and away the best Marvel series that Netflix licensed. The actors are believable, the character motivations are complex, the choreography is brutally great and the camerawork is levels above anything else. Seas 03 Ep 4 has a 7 minute single take with three fights in confined spaces (the prison riot) - that must have been absolute hell to film, especially since it wasn't on a constructed sound stage, but in an actual prison where they had to map it based on location limitations. That sequence is nearly every bit as impressive as the 6 minute long take by Cary Fukunaga & Adam Arkapaw from True Detective in Seas 01 Ep 04 "Who Goes There."ck3 wrote:
I wrapped up the Netflix Marvel offerings a few days ago and, though all had entertaining elements (some moreso in season 2), am still dealing with a toss-up in terms of Daredevil vs. Punisher being my fave of the lot.

Sounds like the very ticket, will have to get on that!ck3 wrote:If you dig the Evil Dead franchise, it's the next chapter, complete with the same type of graphic, slapstic violence and loads of bawdy one liners. Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
Just finished Dead Like Me (Prime Video) last night, and now facing another epic showhole. I thought it was close to Six Feet Under in terms of dark dramedy goodness and better than Pushing Daisies, the latter of which was either produced or written by the same team. Apparently, the feature length sequel is crap and lacks Mandy Patinkin, but I'll probably still stream it at some point. For now, back to Ash vs. Evil Dead or something similar.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
I loved Dead Like Me. Roommate watched the movie and advised me not to bother so I've skipped it. I tried watching a few episodes of Pushing Daisies because I mostly love Bryan Fuller's shows, but I found it overly cutesy and annoying.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
Some of the characters in Pushing Daisies annoyed me a bit, but the underlying, morbid premise of the show and air of quirkiness kept my interest. I recently got through episode 1 of season 5 of Orphan Black and also attempted to start the Black Scorpion series, the latter of which must have an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes rating. Neither seemed appealing, which is surprising regarding the first of the two given how quickly I burned through the first 4 seasons of Orphan Black. Maybe too much time lapsed between viewing seasons 4 and 5. In any event, I'm now binging The Rain, which has been pretty standard post apocalyptic survival sci-fi thus far.

I saw that crop up and am planning on trying it. Working through s2 of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel on Prime. I don’t think I’ve seen anything better from Tony Shalhoub—he’s just killing it.behndy wrote:woooooo! Happy! is on Netflix. looooving it.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
i love Shalhuoubster in that. it's a cute, fun series. the wifey and i just finished Shitts Creak (love it), are a few episodes into season 3 of F is for Family (really liked the first 2 seasons, so far 3 is.... meh), then we'll tackle Maizy v2.
but we only watch tv once or twice a week. cut up some fancy cheeses, fix a snacky style entrée, get some beers or champagne for The Lady, mellow out for 3 or 4 hours in front of the tv.
relaxing hangout times, but the slowest of the binge'ings.
i watch about 2 or 3 hours of vidja based media at work though a day.

Re: The Netflix/Hulu/Prime Thread
mannnnn i am loving Happy!. so freaking good. it's like Crank (which i loved) the series, but with way better writing and less reliance on a gimmick.
also, first time i've seen homeboy Chris Meloni where he was fun to watch.
