Re: THE BEER THREAD?
A list of my favorites would be stupendously long. So here's the very cream of the crop right now:
Belhaven St. Andrews Ale - scottish ale, one of the smoothest drinking beers I've ever had
Southern Tier Jahva Stout - INSANEly good coffee stout
Ommegang Ommegeddon - just tried this last week. If you like lambics/gueuzes/sour beers, this is the best god damn one I've ever had.
Duchesse de Bourgogne - a flemish red ale, the other best sour beer in the world
Affligem Tripel - great trappist ale
Ommegang Three Philosophers - trappist ale with belgian kriek cherries
Dogfish Head 120-minute IPA - I'm not a big IPA freak, but these guys do it right
Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock - hells yeah, Jrmy is right about this one
Franziskaner Hefeweizen - I think its better than Weihenstephaner personally
Orkney Skull Splitter - peat-smoked scottish ale
Uerige Altbier - my favorite authentic Dusseldorf Alt, and believe me, I sampled all of them when I was in Dusseldorf

Re: THE BEER THREAD?
has anyone had that Dogfish Bitches Brew yet. or is it even out yet. i've been sober for about 2 1/2 years but beers like that are really making me wonder if i can hold out much longer.
aside from Guiness, Sierra Nevada & Leiniekugel i tend to stick to cheap American beers. i think the micro-brew thing is kinda on some closet homo metrosexual shit anyway but this is just me thinking out loud.

Re: THE BEER THREAD?
Ooh! I lived on Magic Hat when I was living in MA. There are rumours floating about that they merged with Pyramid and will begin brewing/distributing in the Northwest, but I have yet to see it. My favorites were Blind Faith and Humble Patience.
Nice to see the Ommegang love!
On the regular, I really enjoy Sammy Smith's Old Brewery (English) Pale Ale and Taddy Porter.
My most recent discovery is Kwak, which seems to me as the perfect marriage between an English pale and a Belgian gold. Love love love that one! Check it out for sure.

Re: THE BEER THREAD?
I brew beer!
And I honestly love tasting new beers. It's one of my favorite pastimes.
I don't have any true favorites, per se, but here's a non-exhaustive list of beers that I'm pleased to enjoy at almost any time:
• Samichlaus - Classic (and the Helles, too)
• Legacy Brewing Co. - Hoptimus Prime
• Lagunitas - "Kill Ugly Radio" (a Zappa tribute beer)
• Ithaca - Flower Power IPA
• Chimay - Premiere (blue label)
• Augustiner - Pils
• Stone - Arrogant Bastard
• LaChouffe
• Orval
• Delirium Tremens
• Unibroue - La Fin du Monde
• Sierra Nevada - Bigfoot
• Dogfish Head - ApriHop
• Witkap Pater - Singel
Seriously though, I'll drink any beer that falls into "Belgian Strong Ale" category of the BJCP style guidelines.

While I want to try everything on your list, these three are particularly intriguing. Do you know where to get 'em around Providence? I need to try that new place, Bottles - supposedly has a good beer selection...

I get most of my beer at Mendon Wine & Spirits, which is just off 295 at 114, right near where I live. And then definitely have the Southern Tier and the Skull Splitter. I don't know about down in Providence yet. And I think you've tried the Franziskaner before, when we met up at AS220 last year.

Nice. If that new place doesn't have what I'm looking for, I'll definitely have to check Mendon out. I have found some Southern Tier in PVD, but only limited offerings.bigchiefbc wrote:And I think you've tried the Franziskaner before, when we met up at AS220 last year.
Oh, RIGHT! That stuff was awesome. Gotta track down some bottles...

I just remembered another good peat-smoked scottish ale, that might be a bit more available. It's called Kilt Tilter, by Middle Ages Brewing, which I've seen around New England a lot.
