its green too!
Flat wounds or, better still, nylon tape wounds. Each string type reduces string harmonics but our fuzzes will add harmonics right back.

oh cool. i don't know shit about bass strings so thanks the tip!
i'll def check it out when i switch the strings, they a lil beat up but i'm gunna ride em for awhile more
bass strings are like >= $40 a pack aren't they?

i'm kinda looking for that like "sub bass" or like an low passed bass type tone (not sure if ii'm using the best terms to describe it) anyway so might be right up my alley.

Attention pedal builders: Why bother with top mounted jacks if you're still going to put the power, or a toggle, on the side? :grumpy: (looking at you idiotbox)
I just like doggystyle jacks wherever I can get them in. They aren't real fun in a 1590B that has 3 or more pots and switches..

Flatwound strings are more thumpy and lack sustain, and are smooth to the touch. Easy to get into "dubby" territory. Roundwound have lots of bright zing, piano-like attack, and better sustain. And also are harder on your fingers.

Bass strings are expensive, but people who like flatwound strings basically never change them. Roundwounds lose some of their brightness over time (strings sound "dead") whereas that dead sound is part of the appeal of flatwounds. Flatwound strings basically sound the same forever (or the sound changes a lot less).

Worst possible situation: dead-sounding roundwounds, which still hurt your fingers.

I like the tone of flatwounds, the only big downside is the lack of sustain, if sustain is something you need.

Yea, I mean I do like top mounted jacks! but just not if you're still gonna toss something on the side (especially a toggle). Seems pointless, unless you're really cramming the utmost of everything in a small box...I'm more so talking about a 125b or 1590bb, where there's no damn reason aka plenty of real-state up there. I don't even bother building with top mounted in 1590b  I'll leave that to the man, Dr Scientist (and others).

Nailed it!
They make half flats for an in-between sound and feel. Might be worth looking at.
Also, I use flats on one of my guitars (tele to tame some twang) and I think the same set has been on there for...5+ years?

yea toggle on the side is just begging to be snapped off. seems like a pretty poor decision.
i really don't like those toggle switches in general. much more of a button man myself.

re: bass strings. yea dubby is def one of the words i was looking for.
i guess i like sustain too so i'll have to do a lil mulling about it.
prolly really i just need to build up my fingers. i don't even play guitar all that much so my finger tips are baby soft

thanks dudes! y'all hipped me to something i didn't even know i needed hipping too. :thumb:

distorton/fuzz, based around the 4049 chip

three cascading inverters to achieve the really overloaded and very loud fuzz

When no note is played, it self-oscillates
One of my favorite bands from my post-rock times and just found they made this shit for one of their recent albums.

Is there anything like it? Particularly interested in the noisy aspect of it (see clip below), and never heard of that 4049 before. :idk:

DBA Interstellar Overdriver, is it shit?

I rarely see discussion about it, let alone in a pedalboard...

I did not like it. There are much better overdrivers that cover similar ground and sound better..

Currently I have a mega-bonetastic for a Quantum Mystic. I won't lie. I want that shit.

"Overdrives" are a strange thing imo ... you have your "Transparent" ones.. and "Other"... I typically gravitate to the "Other" types of overdrive. I think stuff like the SS/BS mini or Fuck.. fuzzhugger had a couple great ones ..

I’m not totally sure how to phrase this question in a thread title so I’m just gonna ask it here, but what do y’all use to accentuate parts? I play guitar in a mathy hardcore band and for the parts with panic chords and other discordant stuff I want something to make it harsher/screechier. I’m using an RG with a D-Sonic in the bridge, a Cat Tail, an HM-2, and a DD-5 right now.

I was thinking a wah, pitch fork, or ricochet, basically just something momentary to really bring out the gross frequencies.

I've used the Way Huge tone leper with success for what you describe. It's a frequency selectable boost. Kind of pimp.

There's a pair of vintage WRHBs on Reverb, I want to buy them and send them to EGC to put in one of their Travis Bean-y bodies but I don't have the $4k or whatever that would cost in total.
