Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Would it help to keep your guitar locked in a case and hidden out of sight? Like maybe under your bed or couch or even a closet? Or better yet, maybe but a lock for your closet or bedroom door too? An extra step like that would take more time and noise for a thief, could be a good deterrent. Just keep the orignal door knob around for when you move out. If they are kicking doors in you could buy similar screws that are like 4" long for the latch and hinges to reach the wood studs instead of just the frame.
Edit: that's also terrible about your neighbors.

Yup, a walk in closet pretty dark I think I'll be using to storage my guitar every time, if I add a lock to that door pretty sure they will want to open it so I'll just hide the case as much as I can. Thanks man!

Burglers seem to want small and expensive items like laptops that are easy to carry and hide inside a jacket, and have good resale value.tremolo3 wrote:Yup, a walk in closet pretty dark I think I'll be using to storage my guitar every time, if I add a lock to that door pretty sure they will want to open it so I'll just hide the case as much as I can. What about leaving a couple of non-functional laptops lying around in the open, and maybe a Squier guitar? Even better, put Fender decals on your Squiers and leave them out in the open.

Edit: So the Epiphone SG G400 Pro, "1966" G400 Pro and "worn finish" G400 are the same guitar, except for pickguard and finish??
I was looking at Reverb, Ebay and Craigslist. Used and new G400 are almost the same price, when you figure in free shipping from Musicians Fiend. (They have the 1966 for 15% off.)

I think my new rule with gear is this:
If I can’t have fun with the main functionality without first reading the manual, then I’m not interested

This is why I'm no good with keys/synths really. I'd love to be better with them, but I'm too impatient.01010111 wrote:I think my new rule with gear is this:

To each his own but, why wouldn't you read a manual of something you actually own?01010111 wrote:I think my new rule with gear is this:

Maybe I'm too old school (or my pseudo discipline) but I love to read manuals of things I'm buying so when I receive it, I exactly know how to use it, at least the main features, heck, I even read the inserts of my guitars and the 3 knob Boss pedals I've had.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
I usually do read the manuals, but usually after I’ve played around with it. Though, sometimes I’ll read the manual for something before I buy it because no one demos the functionality I’m interested in, and that functionality isn’t immediately obvious.tremolo3 wrote:To each his own but, why wouldn't you read a manual of something you actually own?01010111 wrote:I think my new rule with gear is this:

The basic point is if I have to read the manual before I can use it, then it’s not something I want to use. It likely requires too much thinking, tinkering, and remembering for me to enjoy using it on a long term basis. If I can’t easily figure it out by looking at only the front panel, then I’d argue the interface is poorly designed.
