Apparently, someone put it in a corner in NY Customs until the seller notified them … but here it is

Tuned Cc gg cc (with the Cc being the bass strings) … it has a GREAT sound, like a big fat mandolin; holding it is awkward because its body is a big bowl but the fretting is pretty simple; I think Arabic/near east music has notes that aren't in Western music because some sharps, for example, are divided into two new notes, nevertheless, if you play guitar you should feel very at home with this one; the dutar felt more "off" but had a simpler acoustic sound; this Buzuq PROJECTS, as a plus, it has a mono jack but with no volume control so what comes out of it is what comes out of it. The build quality is good but the lacquering and adornments (pickguard/decal around soundhole) are sometimes spotty but no complaints once you put it in your hands. I'll post a sound sample ...

That sounds nice … I think "popular" music needs more texture; synths are accomplishing that in many ways but I think there are tons of instruments out there that's aren't being utilized enough and have been relegated to "ethnic" music ...

Nice--I have an "oud-y" one. Can't tell from the pic--fretless?

Or tied-on nylon frets?

Yeah cumbus are great; really up-front sound. You may want to check to make sure your head is nice and tight--those bridges can sag something fierce over time, and a loose head exacerbates that....

A recording of the Cumbus Saz, used mic on recoding unit so background distortion … really starting to love this instrument, surprisingly comfortable but I wish there were strap buttons for a strap …

I just ordered one of these:

I assume it has a bridge piezo pickup. I don't know if that is ideal for distortion sounds but I figure with the Fishman EQ I can take out some lows to make it "distortion friendly" ...
