I remember there was a thread a while back about pedals with tons of knobs and I was like "yeah I like simple pedals, two or three knobs and I'm good", but then I wondered if I was missing out by being stubborn or something. Nope, I just hate menu diving and tweaking.
I do this thing CONSTANTLY where I am using really simple pedals to get a specific tone that I like. Then I think "I wish I could dial this in more specifically", so I get a fancier version (or maybe even a customized version from the builder) with way more controls and then I tweak all the settings and get it all perfect...and then I never touch it. So I look at it and think "I could probably get this same tone with less space/knobs, if I just used a smaller/simpler version". The madness never ends, it's an existential hell of GAS.
I have made similar comments previously about cheap mass produced stuff vs fancy name brand vs custom build (amps, guitars/basses). Starting off cheap, then buying the name brand, then selling both to get custom, then buying something super cheap for fun and end I end up using that 90% of the time. With some exceptions. I have a custom amp I would never sell that's a monster pedal platform for guitar and great bass amp, but it's so big and loud it's practically architecture. So it lives in my dungeon, sitting on an 8x10, plugged into a 1x12, when I could probably get away with a Fender 1x12 and be totally cool.
