Those sound dece to me, if you can get a good deal on one, let her rip. Also be sure to adjust the pickup heights for desired output. I'm not trying to be condescending but a lot of guys have them either way too high or way too low.neonblack wrote:So it turns out, I thought dude replaced the neck pickup, but he replaced the bridge. I have no idea what he replaced it with (or why) but that explains why the neck sounds so huge. I definitely need something hotter. Im leaning towards the quarter pounder honestly

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Wondering why are many people still into pickups swapping instead of getting one of those pickup "simulators" and/or EQ pedals. Isn't this easier and cheaper? Plus, more pedals in the board
Anyone have experience doing that? I believe EHX makes one or two, and there was another big company doing it too.

it's tried and true? there's so much snake oil in the gear biz and so little time and money to check everything out. like for example, kemper profiler might be really good, but i just don't trust anything new that promises to do all that the old does and more.tremolo3 wrote:Wondering why are many people still into pickups swapping instead of getting one of those pickup "simulators" and/or EQ pedals. Well, I'm not a toan nerd but I know that there are more things involved other than a freq response curve, however, this change in the EQ being (IMO) the most noticeable change when swapping pickups, so, why not just getting an EQ pedal to get close to that? Graphics are out there and there are free tools to help with this.vallaton wrote:it's tried and true? there's so much snake oil in the gear biz and so little time and money to check everything out. like for example, kemper profiler might be really good, but i just don't trust anything new that promises to do all that the old does and more.tremolo3 wrote:Wondering why are many people still into pickups swapping instead of getting one of those pickup "simulators" and/or EQ pedals. OTOH, pickup height translates in amount of compression and note clarity, and no EQ pedal can do that I believe.
But then I have no TGP ears and I normally play noisy shit where most of these changes are meaningless, but I thought most of us are in the same camp, that's why it caught my attention in the first place.

Personally, I change pickups because I want a guitar to achieve a certain sound clean before I start adding to it with effects.

Hey! Let's talk about serious thing. We're gonna talk about guitar, dude.

I feel like changing a pickup has always made strings feel different? Am I just overthinking it? Like I only use one set of strings all the time so I've felt like there's been a difference when I've done it, like the relationship between my picking and the response of the string.

That's what I'm trying to change. I don't get any oomph when I hit it. I need oomph.

Yeah, pickups have their own particular response to dynamics that mere EQing can't compare to. The only pedals that are gonna approximate pup changes are ones that do tricks with phasing etc. to simulate single coil vs humbuckers etc.

They gave a few for free like 2-3 years ago, and they have their "max" program once (or twice?) a year, where you can max out a standard or core for fewer algorithms than what normally takes.reckon luck wrote:Do H9 algorithms ever go on sale?

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Any Mountainking fans able to easily explain the differences between their pedals? (Seems like they're all described as destructive distortions). I own a Megalith so I have that as a reference. Sorry if this seems lazy.
I had a similar issue with Effector 13 pedals, it was hard to tell them apart, and so I never bought any of them (my Megalith does rule though).

left to right;
1-longest repeat set to max before it cuts out, in long mode
2-setting for hold, constant hold at 12 o'clock on the hold knob
3-modulation depth set to an octave -/+ when bpm is set to longest length in short mode
..thats the short and sweet version of their functions, kinda freaked to mess with them...not sure I even understand^ lol
