Lol just saw this in an early X-Files episode. The gear is SPX-90, Lexicon PCM42, DBX 160X and a Roland SDE-1000 not shown. Super high tech alien stuff.

Have you seen that Eventide in Contact? I think is an Orville.

It's a movie:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118884/

???
ES1?
Eventide DSP400
Alesis ADAT
Looks like she's turning up that freq value in a synth reverb patch
(probably the patch they used for the alien signal sound of the movie?)

I'm starting to think that I could do with a noise gate but I'm reticent. Small stages + big volume changes = a lot of feedback. My gf was having a similar problem with bass and she got a really cheap donner[joyo] noise gate and says it completely cured the problem, but then she's not a stickler for t o n e like I am.

EHX Silencer is pretty nice for a utility pedal. Don't notice any toanzuck with it. Also it's black.

I’ve been anti-gate forever, but picked one up recently because I needed one in my hardcore band and honestly it’s sick. Probably the best utility pedal I’ve had. It also has some pretty surprisingly cool noisy uses. Setting the gate a little bit past where t gives you sustain and you can get some crazy choppy tones out of it.MechaGodzilla wrote:I'm starting to think that I could do with a noise gate but I'm reticent. Op-amp chip does literally nothing to the sound/tone. You can go LM308 chip or LM308 can (the LM308N and LM308AH respectively), or the OP07. They all do the same thing.BetterOffShred wrote:I have been researching cloning Rats with the OP07DP chip which was the replacement for the 308 at end of life, and apparently they are really close. There's that one out now that even has a socketed chip so you can try and source a vintage 308 (I socket all my chips) and compare. Anyone have any opinions on the OP chip in a Rat?
Changing how it clips is how you really get a Rat to blossom. I like germanium diodes. Bass player I know is crazy about red LED. The diodes removed is a gnarly sound too.
My favorite Rat is the You Dirty Rat. Uses the germanium diodes. Is fuzzy and warm. Good shit.

Thanks for the input
the LM308 is pretty hard to come by, and honestly I'm not sure I'll even box it so I don't want to drop that kind of cash on a vintage chip.
I got a bunch of different Ge diodes to use for clipping. Maybe a rotary is in order when I build it.

Ah you're gonna build one, sorry, I didn't gather that. Yeah the OP07 will do just fine but I think you can source an LM308 for a few bucks?
But anyways yes, throw some clipping options in there (both symmetrical and asymmetrical), with different LED or diode options. Thing will rip.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
There's a bunch of fake LM308's around.. I'm not saying I'm a "Muh Toanz!" kind of dude when it comes to fuzz pedals, but one with a bunch of voodoo chili and unicorn farts and baby seal tears all over it like the RAT deserves to have the best fighting chance you can give it. As such I read the OP07 is about as close as you can get without getting an actual 80's chip pulled from something else. It's a Lo-Fi pile of course, but that's what makes the magic.ummohyeah wrote:Ah you're gonna build one, sorry, I didn't gather that.
